(Clarification: if you feel like the story is jumping too fast, it's because the canon story fills in the rest. I'll still try my best to pinpoint where we are in the books but let me know if you don't get it.♡)

(TW: slightly explicit description of Damon stabbing Gabriel, blood and other stuff)

DAMON

Suddenly, or well just like planned, blue smoke rose in the air, filling the tavern as guests started to scream and rush towards the doors, panicking. Goddammit, this was more chaotic than I expected. Lily and I looked at each other, wide eyed as the smoke breezed through us, and filled the whole room. People hitting us, as they ran and lurched for the doors, and I looked towards my father but he was gone. Fuck!

“Lev!” I called out, narrowing my eyes through the smoke curtain to see the man standing at the door. “Not here!” I heard him say and I cursed. We knew he was next to a staircase, but that could have only been a way to trick us. We couldn’t blindly go up the stairs, what if he wasn’t there.

“What’s the reason you’re so tall if you can’t see shit, Damon?” Lily said, growling as people bumped into us, as our eyes scanned the surroundings to find my father. She was right, I needed to be taller, but the coffee table in front of us was still too short.

“Get on my shoulders. You’ll be higher than the smoke cloud, hurry!” I told her and crouched so she could straddle my head and sit on my shoulders. I made sure to hold her tightly, my fingers digging into her slender thighs through her cargo pants, as I stood straight again, lifting her up easily.

Lily fanned her arm, trying to dissipate the smoke as she looked around until she fumbled to be put down.

“Stairs! Let’s go.” She said, and we jumped across the short table, the glasses clinking and tumbling down, as we rushed to the railing. I heard Lily yelp, as a woman crashed into her and they both fell. I stopped, wanting to help my girl but she looked at me, and yelled at me to go.

I rushed upstairs, glancing back seeing Lily helping out the woman on her feet and then following me up rapidly.

When we reached upstairs, the smoke had filtered through here as well, and I noticed a long hallway with many rooms. Goddammit, how could we find him? Will, Michael, Kai, Rika, Banks and Alex followed us, and we moved slowly.

“He can’t be in one of these…” Lily said her voice a whisper as if she was reasoning by herself, and suddenly he clicked, why would he trap himself in one of the rooms? “The roof.” I said, looking at her and she nodded. Banks told Lev downstairs to guard the fire escape and we walked to a dark staircase that led to the rooftop of the building.

When we reached the top, I opened the door and pushed through as we all spilled out onto the roof. My father and one of his men immediately came to view as they tried to lurch for the fire escape. The man at my father’s side turned around, and quickly moved to pull out his weapon, but suddenly something flew past me, quickly and hit the man’s forehead making his head whip back and his knees give out as he fell on the ground, the dagger clanking against the floor. The butt must have hit the man. What the hell?

I looked back, seeing Rika in a lunging position, until she huffed and stood straight again. Okay, whatever.

My father looked at his man, on the ground, taking deep breaths and racking a hand though his graying hair, assessing the situation.

He then looked back at me, his dark eyes so similar to mine yet so different now.

“You won’t do what it takes,” He started to say, and I inhaled and exhaled slowly, as I took a step forward, I heard Lily following me but keeping herself at a fair distance and I didn’t stop her. Even if it was dangerous, I needed her to be by my side. The others stood back, unmoving as I approached my father.
