Death?

"Shinto... Shinto!", was all he could hear. His vision and hearing were blurry and he was just waiting to die. Blood kept spilling out of his injured stomach, even if he had sewn the injury;Tako was trying his best to heal Steve's injury and Yoro held his hand.

They felt like reliving that moment that had impacted so much in their lives. They couldn't fail this time.

Takobu tried to heal Steve with all his mana. Even if he knew that his life would be drained, he continued healing him with all he got. Yorokobu sprinted to where the spear, which appeared to be melting, was, picked it up, and ran back to where the other two were. Then he tried to break it, slamming it to the ground, but it didn't break.

Then he grabbed his mother's pants and applied pressure to the injury, but Takobu screamed that he mustn't do that since he wasn't able to heal Steve properly.

Yoro didn't know what to do. He thought about how useless he was feeling for the situation. He wanted to help, but couldn't.

Then, an Idea sparked in his head. "I need to make Steve enhance my brother's magic". He screamed at Steve "SHINTO!, UNDO THE SPEAR!", to no response. He insisted, but Steve barely could hear him mumbling.

"Ah shit! What do I do!?", thought Yoro. He couldn't think of anything. He wondered if Steve would be able to survive if he didn't do something. No. Maybe Steve nor his brother would be able to survive if he didn't do anything.

While Yoro was inside his head, thinking about what to do; Takobu was also inside his own head.

"Will I be able to save Shinto?" "Will I die before saving him?", he thought as his body was getting weaker by each passing second. He felt how his legs were becoming numb, so he sat down; how his arms were losing strength, so he placed them on top of Steve's Injury, making his hands become submerged in blood; His eyes closed and he was starting to be unable to think straight. The only thing he could think of was saving Steve.

At the same time, Steve thought how he had been in near death experiences countless times inside this dungeon. He knew that this time he was going to die. He thought about how he had already forgotten the face of his real parents, how his uncle died, how he just wanted to be with his new family due to the lack of one in the previous one, how he still called his new family "new" in his mind, and about how he wouldn't be able to meet his friends again.

He missed them. They made his life enjoyable.

Steve remembered how he met them. There had been a party where all the first graders came to know everyone. It was in a big modern house, from a rich parent. It had an enormous backyard that had a pool, lots of food on a big table, a giant trampoline, half of a basketball field, two dogs chasing each other, and a cat lying below the table.

A man he didn't remember took him to the party. He didn't remember his face nor his voice.

There, he saw two kids jumping on the trampoline. One had short blond hair, a blue t-shirt and white shorts, also wearing blue crocs; and the other one was a ginger girl, a little shorter than the other kid. She had long curly hair. That girl wore a white buttoned shirt, blue jeans and brown sandals.

He clumsily ran to where they were and said: "I want to play with you".

They looked at each other confused, and then the girl said: "Oki".

He climbed the stairs and jumped inside the trampoline.

"My name is Steve", he commented to them, and they replied "My dad put me the name 'Louis'" and "I am Mia".

They have become best friends since then.

He went back outside of his mind. His injury had closed a bit, like a 20% and Takobu almost couldn't breathe. Steve could see and hear a little clearer, not just colorless masses moving.

He looked to Takobu, who was healing him with both hands and both feet. Then he looked to where Yorokobu was. He was scratching his head, thinking about what to do, until he saw Steve looking at him.

When he saw that, his eyes were so happy that they appeared to be glowing, as if he had made a breakthrough. He grabbed the spear and showed it to Steve, then he left it on the ground, pointed at it, and after that he pointed at his brother.

"What?", Steve thought. "Ok, he is trying to say something. He grabbed a red pole, then he dropped it, pointed at it and then pointed at Takobu".

"Give the pole to him? We don't have a pole, we have a spear. Give the spear to him? Why would that help?", he tried to guess, until it clicked. He unmerged the thirty aura balls, ten of them which he had gained over that year, and sent them all at Takobu's body. He aimed at his heart, his lungs, and his brain, praying that at least one of them hit the manental lobe.

He didn't know if this world's organs were the same, but by watching his own ones he had a general Idea of where they should be, at least for a demon. He assumed that both species should have evolved similarly due to the similar shape of their bodies, and at least the brain should be in the same place.

The Kobu brothers also prayed for it to work, but they didn't have to pray, because Takobu felt how strength entered his body, his mind was clearing up, he was able to breathe normally and his eyes opened. He felt hope again and the thoughts of not being able to save Steve and himself dying had disappeared.

"Wow! This really is different", he said as he put every bit of his mana to heal Steve.

Steve's wound slowly, but a lot faster than before, closed. He could see and hear better and he felt confident enough to speak, so he was going to, but Yorokobu put his finger above his lips, telling him that he shouldn't.

An hour passed and Steve had recovered. He looked at Takobu and Yorokobu, who were looking at his face with a mix of exhaustment and expectancy for what Steve would say.

Steve noticed how his heart had calmed down, so he assumed some Aura balls had disappeared. He summoned another one, made a tablet with the number ten and raised it above his head and said "I'd give you a hundred".

They didn't move.

"Huh? Did I do something wrong?", he thought before saying "Thank you". But they didn't move. They just looked at his face and his wound as if it could disappear in any second. "What do I say? What do they want me to say? Are they waiting for me to give them something? I don't know"

Steve looked from Yoro to Tako, and from Tako to Yoro, who didn't move. "Guys, you are making me uncomfortab-", he tried to say but was interrupted by a hug from them. It felt warm, like a bath before sleeping. He hadn't felt a hug as warm as this one. He hugged them back as tears started coming from his eyes. They cried, not like the other time. This time they had been able to save him. The Kobu brothers repeated: "Thank you... Thank you..." as they strongly hugged.

Maybe an hour or two passed and they all were laying on the ground next to each other, exhausted. Steve had created pillows for everyone, the last bits of the ear were dissolving and the golem had been gone long ago.

"I feel like my insides are soup", Steve said to the other two, placing one hand on his belly and the other one opened with his sword on top. He felt funny. Maybe he had placed his organs in the wrong place. "Well, they will return to their position in some time"

"I feel like I could die in any second", joked Takobu, who had a hand on his forehead and his book to the side.

"This is the worst moment to make that joke", said Yorokobu, laughing silently, as if he laughed louder he would lose his voice. He had placed his knife next to him and his mother's pants.

Then, the ear dissolved. A huge pressure, so strong that Steve thought that the wound would open again, was felt by everyone. It repelled the boys, who were too tired to scream, to the exit. They were hitting their heads to the walls of the dungeon, so Steve grabbed a cushion and put it on his head to avoid hitting it and the other ones copied him. It still hurt, but it helped.

After that, they were finally there: In the exit. The door slowly faded away and they saw, finally, what was outside.
