Mingyu showered and changed and joined Wonwoo and the others for a meal. The omega seemed off his food, but Mingyu put that down to tiredness after his ordeal. As soon as they were done, Minghao brought him upstairs to bed.
Mingyu offered to do the dishes, since he knew Seungcheol and the others had work to do outside. While he was drying the last of the plates, he felt eyes watching him.
“Something I can help you with, Minghao?”
He glanced over his shoulder at the beta, who was leaning against the door frame, his arms crossed.
“You had sex with Wonwoo.”
Mingyu winced at that. “Wonwoo told you, huh? Yeah. It wasn’t exactly how we’d planned things to happen. But we made the best of it.”
“He went into heat, you and he slept together, and you don’t see any glaringly obvious problems?”
“Like what? We’re both tested regularly, so nothing to worry about on that score. And he’s on injections to prevent pregnancy…”
Maybe that wasn’t what Minghao was getting at. He turned around, giving the beta his full attention.
“Minghao, if I thought for a moment he wasn’t in the right headspace to be making the decisions he was making, I’d have kept my distance. But he wanted me—needed me—and I was happy to be there for him.”
Minghao sighed. “That’s not it. I almost wish it was, because that would be infinitely easier to deal with. It’s a question of status.”
“Status?” Mingyu repeated, bewildered.
“Pack status, to be more precise.”
“I’m still not following,” he admitted.
“Yeah, you and Wonwoo both. Neither of you are usually this slow.”
“What can I say? It’s been one hell of a week.”
“Well, the next few months are going to be interesting too, believe me.”
Mingyu set down the plate he was holding and dried off his hands. “Care to tell me what you’re getting at? The hints aren’t really clueing me in.”
“Sure.” Minghao moved to perch on the counter opposite him. “You come to the orchard and live with our pack for a few months. Wonwoo does the same. Wonwoo goes into heat. You two make with the great sex. Following me so far?”
“Every step of the way,” Mingyu promised, still mystified as to where the conversation was going.
“Then the question you should be asking yourself right now, the question Wonwoo is currently refusing to even consider, is whether you and Wonwoo are actually pack. Because if you are, sharing his heat takes on a whole new meaning.”
“I’m not sure I understand.”
“Of course you do. I know Seungcheol told you about how he and Jeonghan ended up in the family way.”
“Yes, but… that’s different.”
“How?”
“Well, they were here, for one.”
“You and Wonwoo were both here not ten days ago. I don’t think a few days away from the orchard means the difference between being pack and not pack.”
Mingyu finally saw what had Minghao all fired up.
“If you’re right, and we are pack, then…”
