Stephanie's phone buzzed with Ryan's text. She called him.
"Hey, I've been totally busy with work," Stephanie explained. "The job load is overwhelming, and that's why I couldn't call you."
Ryan's voice was filled with longing. "I really miss you. I want to come back, but I have a surprise for you."
Stephanie's curiosity piqued. "Oh, really? I miss you too."
"Okay, I'll call you later," Stephanie said. "I need to get ready for the office."
She hung up and headed to the kitchen.
Stephanie opened the cupboard, pulled out a bunch of spinach, and soaked it in a bowl of water. Next, she boiled two eggs and heated milk on the stove.
After breakfast was ready, she served it on the table.
Then, she headed to the bathroom, towel in hand.
As she showered, she heard a faint noise from the kitchen.
Stephanie turned off the tap, her ears perked up.
Silence.
Stephanie's senses heightened as she stood frozen, water dripping from her body.
The noise seemed to come from the kitchen, but she couldn't quite place it.
Her mind racing, she grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself.Slowly, she opened the bathroom door, her eyes scanning the hallway. The kitchen lights were still on, but the room seemed undisturbed.Cautiously, Stephanie approached the kitchen.
Everything was in order - breakfast still on the table, eggs and milk untouched.
But the atmosphere felt off.
Suddenly, a faint creak echoed from the living room. The lights flickered wildly, like a disco dance. The TV flashed disturbing images in the background.Stephanie's anxiety peaked.
"What's happening here?" she screamed, her voice trembling.
Suddenly, everything stopped.
The silence was deafening.
Stephanie took a deep breath, calming herself.
"It's just a weird glitch," she rationalized.
Shaking off the unease, she headed to the bedroom to change.
She put on a crisp business suit, gathered her belongings, and went downstairs.
Breakfast was a hurried affair - coffee and toast.
Stephanie grabbed her car keys and locked up the house.
Windows, doors, everything secured.
As she drove to the office, the morning sunlight seemed to dispel the eerie atmosphere.
But her mind lingered on the strange occurrences.
Was it just her imagination?
Miss Stephanie sat at her desk, lost in thought.
"Miss Stephanie?" a voice interrupted.
She looked up to see Christopher's assistant, Emma.
"Hi, Emma. What brings you here?" Stephanie asked.
"Sir Christopher is leaving for a two-day trip," Emma explained.
"He's entrusted you with temporary responsibility."
Stephanie's mind flashed back to the strange noises.
Was this trip connected to Christopher's sudden departure?
