Chapter Five
Reece.
Every female I passed by kept squealing and stealing glances at me. It was so disgusting, I felt I would puke.
I didn't even want to be in this mating ball tonight. I was here only for one sole purpose: to meet Darren, see his daughter, and seal the deal between us.
'And find the pretty wolf from the last ball'. Kyla squealed.
'Of what use is finding her? I will be getting married soon'.
'I knew it. So you liked her and deep down wanted to see her'. Kyla howled as I instantly blocked our mindlink.
I didn't like her. I detested all females. And hated the word love.
'Chill is a process. From like comes love'. Kyla chuckled as an irritated scowl slipped off my lips. I thought I blocked the mindlink?
Tired of dealing with Kyla, I rose from my seat and strode directly to the garden, at the far end of the building. I just needed to clear my mind.
Just as my feet entered the garden, an amazing mix of jasmine and lavender invaded my senses; it was a scent I could never mistake, the wolf girl from the previous ball.
I inhaled a sharp breath as I kept sniffing in the scent, unable to get enough, and soon I reached it's peak.
Her fragile framing was leaning beside an oak tree. She had her back facing me, and it was almost like she hadn't sensed my presence yet, as her body was still and showed no signs of movement.
I instantly swallowed the lump rising in my throat as my hands grew moist. Unable to reach for the handkerchief in my pocket. I wiped both hands on my pants.
Except for my ragged breathing and the heavy thudding of my heart in my chest, the only sounds that could be heard were the chipping of birds. Ambling closer to her, I felt my Adam apple jerk up as a low growl escaped my lips. The effect she had on me was undeniable.
'And that effect is called love. Forget about your deal with Darren; let's make her our chosen mate'. Kyle growled, and for a second, just a second, I entertained the possibility that I might have fallen in love.
Without sparing a second, I drew the distance between us as I wrapped my arm firmly around her waist from behind.
Unable to get enough of her sweet scent, that drove me crazy and made me question my sanity. I tilted my head to the crook of her neck as I felt her shudder beneath my hold, and oh, that only aroused me more as my desire for her increased. I could even break my fifteen years of celibacy for this female; here and now, I didn't mind.
"So what's with you and sneaking out of ball parties? I thought the reason people attend mating ceremonies was to find their chosen mate." I growled, my voice filled with some humor.
She tensed up. "Maybe the reason I always sneak out is because I know he isn't in there, and no matter what happens, we will always end up alone before the ball comes to an end." She blurted in her honeyed voice; that was like soothing music to my ears.
"I love your boldness. I need you to turn around; I want to see your face." I growled as I carefully freed my tight grip on her waist.
She slowly turned around. Before I could even process her features, her lips slammed against mine in an urgent kiss that sent sparks of electricity round my whole body. I guess this is becoming a thing for us now.
Unlike our first kiss, this one was less than eloquent; her teeth had knocked into mine; it was painful, and I heard her grimace in between kisses, but she just wouldn't give up.
I slowly pushed her away from me; I needed to see her face so things wouldn't end up like last time.
She slowly fell to the ground as her raven black hair lied flat across her face, hiding it from my view.
"Unveil your face." I demanded, my voice husky and raspy as my mind reeled. Why was she hiding her face? Was it for the same reason she ran away at the previous ball?
Unable to make any sense out of it, I growled loudly, but she didn't bulge; she remained fixated on the spot. No one had ever gone against my orders before except this one; she truly was unspeakable.
"I said unveil your face." I yelled in a loud baritone voice, my alpha tone attempting to take over.
She gently placed a hand on the grass beside her. For a split second, I felt she was about to tilt her neck in submission, but instead she caught me off guard by standing abruptly and running towards the pathway leading out of the garden.
