Chapter Twenty Six
Step 2.0

Bronwyn sat at the chess table her eyes focused upon the board before her. For once she had actually placed the set she had been given, yes she fully intended to use the extremely expensive J.Grahl set. Well she only intended to use it on specific occasions, all of which amounted to playing the person who had gifted her the set. Even if his skills remained incredibly poor.

Blaise had sat opposite her, having played multiple rounds over the last half an hour or so, refusing to move to play someone else until he beat her. The only issue being was that he had yet to accomplish the first task. Rather he had barely lasted more than 5 or so minutes in a game before he had been rather brutally defeated. But each time Bronwyn had offered to maybe go a little easier so the game was fairer, give herself a small handicap, he had refused. He wanted to win fairly. Which was not going to happen, not for a long time it would seem.  And as she watched his queen be captured once again by one of her pieces she knew that if she didn't call it a night that they would be here forever. And she wasn't sure she was a fan of everyone not so subtly looking over at the pair, confused as to why they were spending so much time together. Two people on the opposite side of the same fight, or at least that was what they were being lead to believe.

"Come on let's leave." Bronwyn announced as she watched as the chess pieces weaved their way back together. The dust around them which had been generated during the match settling and the set looking back to brand new like they had never been played with.

"I'm not finished yet." Blaise went to protest but Bronwyn hoped she gave him a look which told him otherwise. He might have not felt finished but she wasn't sure how much longer she could sit there knowing that she was going to win every time. It felt anything but satisfying and only lead her mind to spiral what it must have been like for people who had never lost at something.

"You're not going to win tonight." Bronwyn cringed at her own words, they definitely sounded like she was a horrible know-it-all. Or some conceited bighead.

"Yeah." Blaise paused and she felt herself hold her breath at what he might just say next "I need a lot more practice before I can actually win." He was quick to stand from his chair watching as she finished packing up her chess board not wanting to leave any of it behind for some other unworthy player to use. They were her pieces not anyone else's. As she went to shrug back on her uniform cloak she was quick to find someone else there to help her pull it on, only for deep chocolate brown eyes to meet her own. Only this time, they were on par with her own. He had grown slightly and they now seemed to be the same height.

"We're the same height." Her words stumbled out before she could stop herself. She hoped he wouldn't take it in the wrong way, but when she got a laugh back she knew that it was taken in good light. A good thing considering just how much she felt like she was messing up this evening with her wording. Oh how embarrassed her mother would be to hear how she was acting, how she was talking. Perhaps her mother had raised a monster after all.

"Gotta grab a head start incase you plan to grow anymore over the summer." He was quick to take the box from Bronwyn so she had no need to carry it before using his spare hand to take her right one. Quickly dragging her from the room, aware of the watching eyes around them. And that she wasn't overly keen on everyone watching them. Or at least for now, he hoped soon enough that she would want to show him off to everyone, show off their relationship but he knew that would come with time. Time which could only be gained after he had fully made her his. That was when he knew that they needed to make a trip down to the dungeons so he could slip into his room and collect the thing he needed to give her next.

The walk down to the dungeons was rather cold, Bronwyn was unsure if it was due to the sun having set in chilly Scotland but whatever it was she noted she really needed some warmer clothing options. Sure it was moving towards the end of April and therefore the sun would be out more often than not but she was freezing. She tried to move her cloak around her body more so that it was enough to fully cover her. But it did little good, considering she was sure at some point soon a small hole would open up in the cloak. But she was sure this exact cloak had belonged to Percy before it was tailored and bill before him. Her weedy tall frame had made it so that it was rather easy for her parents to just get the old uniform slightly adjusted for her without the need of getting a new set made. But it also meant this school cloak was on its third cycle through the school, it could possibly be more than three cycles if she was being honest. Blaise looked over to her briefly once again to quickly pick up on the small details. His impulse to get angry having to be held back knowing just why she was trying to draw her cloak around her as tightly as possible.
