Michael sits at his window, looking out through his telescope at the stars above. He takes his eye away from the lens and runs a hand through his curly brown hair before readjusting his circular glasses. A thud is heard in the next room over, followed by the closing of a window. Michael sighs and gets up, grabs his dressing gown from the hook on his door and puts it on before he opens the door and steps out.Michael looks up and down the hall. To his right is the bathroom, which is across the hall from the stairs. Down the hall to his left is his twin brother's room, his older sister's room. His father's room is across the hall from his sister's room, the hot press is directly across the hall from Michael's room. Michael knocks on the door of his twin brother, Max's room and whispers to the door "Did you sneak out again?". It's quiet for a moment before a faint "no." can be heard from the other side of the door.
The door swings open and Michael sees Max standing there. The two brothers are nearly identical, aside from a few differences. Max's hair is shorter and a darker brown than Michael's, and Max wears a piece of tape over the bridge of his nose. "Don't tell Dad." Max says before shutting the door again. Michael scoffs and returns to his own room, closing the door softly behind him.
Michael returns his dressing gown to the hook behind his door. He walks past his window and stops. He looks out at the woods behind the house, reminiscing when he used to play in the woods with Max, and Mabel, and... their mother. Now deep in the woods, something catches Michael's eye.
A faint purple glow shining through some far back trees. He fixes his glasses and then crouches down by his radiator to grab his boots.
