EPISODE 1 - CONCUSSED & CONFUSED
(Johnny dreams of counseling Tophia after a blow to the head.)
[Cold Open: Scene in Tophia and Johnny's Apartment]
[The camera zooms in on Johnny's face, sporting a nasty bruise on his forehead. [Prod: it's just good make-up] Tophia, drunk, is pacing back and forth, grumbling to herself as she prepares a sandwich. She slams the bread down on the counter.]
Johnny: (rubbing his head) Ow... you know, Tophia, that last door slam really had some gusto.
Tophia: (shrugging) What? If you didn't have such a soft head, you wouldn't be in pain. I'm just expressive.
[Cutaway gag: Tophia at a poetry reading, yelling her poem and shaking the podium aggressively, sending other poets fleeing in terror.]
Johnny: (half-laughing, half-serious) Sometimes I wonder if I need therapy after hanging outwith you.
Tophia: (grinning) Therapy's for people who need to talk about their feelings. I just put mine into my fists... or doors.
[Tophia heads out, slamming the door again. Johnny stumbles, holding his head. He sighs and closes his eyes.]
[The screen fades out as Johnny mutters to himself.]
Johnny: Maybe we both need counseling...
[Title Sequence]
[Scene 1: Inside a Therapist's Office]
[Johnny and Tophia are seated on a couch in a warmly decorated therapist's office.Tophia's arms are crossed, looking annoyed. Johnny is fidgeting, nervous but hopeful.]
Dr. Patel: (warmly) So, Tophia, Johnny, what brings you here today?
Johnny: (smiling nervously) Well, Tophia and I have... a unique relationship. Sometimes it feels a little... intense.
Tophia: (snorts) He's just sensitive. Like a marshmallow. And I'm the campfire.
Dr. Patel: (nodding) I see. Tophia, do you ever feel that your intensity might be too much for Johnny?
Tophia: Look, Doc, I'm just being me! It's not my fault if Johnny's delicate. (leans back, rollsher eyes) I'm more of a... "tough love" kind of friend.
[Cutaway gag: Tophia hitting a piñata at a birthday party with a bat, missing it completelyand accidentally hitting a nearby child's cake with a grin on her face.]
Johnny: (gently) Tophia, I mean... sometimes I don't feel safe around you. Like, maybe... we could dial itdown?
