"nalani june, i swear to god if you don't go upstairs and get dressed i will get your father." rose burst into nalani's bedroom, placing one hand on her hip and the other on the door knob.
nalani hated how rose tried to act like her mother because she was certainly not. as much as she tried to act like she was, none of the cameron kids liked her. they may argue over everything but that was the one thing they agreed on.
rose 'cameron' was a priss and definitely not their mother.
"wheezie has your dress in her bedroom." she walked over and pulled the duvet cover off the bed and onto the floor. "you're matching, remember?"
nalani groaned loudly, hitting her head with her hands. midsummers was boring because she didn't get to spend it with her bestfriend, and everyone else got to get drunk while she didn't.
it was like going to a bar and sitting on the floor with a measly cup of apple juice, which is just pathetic.
she slowly dragged herself out of her bedroom and across the hall into her twin sisters bedroom. for some strange reason, nalani always seemed to forget they were twins. when you think of twins, you think of two people who are joined at the hip.
"rose said you have my dress." nalani looked over at wheezie who was dressed in a floor length light blue, with bluebells along the bottom, silk dress with a white headband placed on the middle of her head. "sorry. didn't mean to...intrude."
"right." wheezie nodded slowly, walking over to her closet and picking up a dress bag off the rack along with a matching headband. she then moved over to nalani, handing it to her. "there."
"...thanks." she whispered, slowly retreating from the bedroom.
she walked back into hers to begin getting ready. first, she put on her matching dress. it was the same style but yellow with little daises around the bottom rather than bluebells.
she sort of looked like sarah. to nalani, it was a good thing she looked like her big sister. in fact, she wanted to. ward liked sarah so much that maybe if nalani tried her best to be like her, he'd like her too.
after about half an hour of twirling in the mirror, she finally headed downstairs to her kitchen.
"sarah said she's not going." wheezie said to rose who was walking into the kitchen.
rose scoffs, "the hell she isn't." she picked something up off the counter and placed it into her handbag. "your father is being coronated as the guardian of knights of the rhododendron."
"no offence, rose." nalani interrupted, getting herself a cup of water from the sink. "nobody really cares about that. everyone just goes to midsummers to get drunk and show off their fancy costume."
"you're not my mother, i don't have to do what you tell me." sarah shrugs, smirking as she looked over at their step-mother.
they all hate rose.
"whatever." she mutters, walking over to ward to snitch to him. "your daughter says she's not going."
"she's off topper, jojo."
ward rolled his eyes, "wheezie, nalani. please go, thank you."
they both simultaneously walked out into the foyer, stopping as they reached the bottom of the staircase.
"the dress looks nice." nalani pointed out, getting a 'mhm.' in response. her stomach did a backflip and before her mind could even think about what she was saying, she was blurting out words. "i'm really sorry for being a douchebag."
