I looked at chae-rin coming inside the room with her head hung low after getting scolded her father, she sat down beside me. "Why did you do that?" I softly asked, "Ah, I just didn't want to you to end up with someone you didn't even know" chae-rin replied with a weak smile. "What about you then? You might also end up trapped for the rest of your life" I said clearly upset by her actions.

She flashed me wide smile, "Eonni, you have someone you love but I don't. It's not a big deal for me. Also, if i get selected, I'll be the future queen the most powerful woman in the country" chae-rin joked making me more angry, how could she joke such a thingp? "Does this look like a joke to you!" I yelled at her not being able to control my emotions. "Eonni, it's really fine. I'll be alright" she said giving me a reassuring smile. I sighed knowing I can't win against her.

1 week later-

All the palanquin of the noble girls participating in selection arrived infront the palace gate. As chae-rin stepped out of her palanquin, she saw the other girls all wearing yellow top and red skirt to maintain fairness in the competition. All of them quickly lined up to enter the palace, a lid made with clay was placed infront the gate for the girls to step on that. After getting inside, they were brought the place where the selection will take place. "Wait in the back, all of you will called turn by turn" a senior court lady instructed them.

Chae-rin nervously waited as the first three girls were called in, she looked at the girl waiting beside her. "What is your name?" she asked hoping to start a conversation, "I am Park Min-jeong, from Miryang park family" the girl replied nonchalantly. "Ah, Park min-jeong, that's a really pretty name" chae-rin said before warmly smiling at, the girl smiled back but their was sadness in her eyes. Chae-rin didn't ask anything as she didn't wanna make her feel uncomfortable. Not long after they were called in for screening.

Another girl with chae-rin and min-jeong went to the front for screening. All three of them bowed to the queen and queen dowager before taking their place. "Introduce yourself" a senior court lady instructed them, the first girl spoke up "I am Yoon Min-hyun from Papyeon Yoon clan" she introduced herself. While Min-jeong was introducing herself, Chae-rin looked at the queen, they were parted by a slightly see through curtains as it forbidden for anyone to see the royal family members face. Even through the curtains chae-rin could see the queen smiling at her, which she gave back.

"Lady Min, please introduce yourself" chae-rin snapped back when she heard the queen dowager speak. "Ah, yes. I am Min chae-rin from Yeohang min clan" she replied panicked. "Chae-rin, you have a pretty name" queen dowager gave her an ungenuine compliment, "Thank you" chae-rin her a forced smile.

Later all the contestants arrived in residence provided by the imperial house to stay during the selection process. When she got to her room she saw min-jeong already sitting there. "It seems we're roommate" min-jeong said spotting chae-rin and smiled. "Yeah, It seems we will always run into each other for the rest of our life" chae-rin cracked a joke make the atmosphere relaxed earning a laugh from min-jeong. But soon she spotted a trouble, a ghost staring right at her having a mischievous grin on its face. Chae-rin tried to ignore it and try to act normal but the ghost was persistent about annoying her. She tried everything, pinching her, poking her, pulling her hair and lastly she dropped a flower vase.

Both girls surprised started picking up the shattered vase when min-jeong accidentally cut her fingers, "Oh my gosh, what do we do now" chae-rin gasped concerned about her. "Don't worry I'll just clean the blood off" after saying that she quickly excused herself and left the room. Chae-rin tried to continue picking up the broken pieces but the ghost just didn't leave her alone, "I know can see me" she said, tired by this chae-rin slapped the ghost making her yank off for her life even though she didn't have one. "I said nothing when you kept bothering me but you started bothering other people as well. If you ever bother me again I'm not let it go. Get that!" She yelled at her causing her to shake her head continuesly as a yes.
