Face 1: Hope

"I do hope Haruna is all right," Miyu Sakurada sighed, staring forlornly out the academy window.

"Ehhh, what's the worry? You know our big, important Chairman is probably off doing big, important stuff. And if that's what makes her happy and Hopeful, hey! Who are we to deny her?" Beside her, Kurumi Shiratori singsonged, twirling her pencil, completely unbothered by the tension Miyu could feel rising steadily into the air, as if the very academy itself was holding its breath.

"What's got you worried, Miyu?" Miiko Takeshita asked, a little less flippant than Kurumi, and slightly more perceptive. As the Ultimate Horror Enthusiast, she was hyperaware of the tropes that riddled frightening content, and she, too, could feel the calm before the storm...

"Well, Kurumi is right that Haruna is off doing wonderful things for the world, but..." The Ultimate Lucky Student bit her lip before continuing. "It seems that every time we speak, she is more stressed out and frazzled than the last. I worry about her. I fear she is overburdening herself." While Miyu sighed again, Kurumi snorted again.

"That's good ol' Big Head for you, off busy being a Big Wig! Tch! She's such a worrywart that even if you managed to somehow convince her to take some time off, you know she would be too tightly wound to enjoy it!" The Ultimate Prankster kicked back in her chair, resting her feet on the desk. Thank "god" there's no Chairman here to reprimand me for THAT! Heh, heh, HEH!

Miyu cast a worried look at the other first-year Ultimate. Kurumi had a point. Haruna was always naturally high-strung and tightly-wound. But still... This time felt different... Even if Miyu didn't have the language to describe it. Miiko's face, meanwhile, was unreadable, but she, too, turned to look out the classroom window, envisioning the city Haruna was working at, miles and miles away.

Face 2: Despair

"No! For the last time, no! Truly, I tell you, this is a pit of vipers, and a den of inequity! Religious or not, it perplexes and vexes me that so many Ultimate minds truly believe they cannot do better than this!" Voice dripping with disgust and disdain, Haruna Kasuga, first-year Ultimate Chairman, flicked her fingers towards a sheaf of documents that various advisors, administrators, and other government and public figureheads had compiled. Something bad was creeping in at the borders, and the local city was looking to enter a state of lockdown. Haruna could understand their concerns, however, the repercussions and ramifications of sealing such a central city off from the rest of the region could not be understated.

Perhaps it is only paranoia. That is why I do not voice the true extent of my concerns. However, I fear that this is some sort of plot meant to weaken us under the guise of strengthening us. I understand that none in any city desire for military intervention, however, strange, robotic creatures have been spotted on the borders, handled by zombie-like people who seem incapable of anything other than wreaking havoc across anything that comes across their path! They were isolated cases at first, simple and singular murders, but the attacks were becoming bolder and bolder every day.

"But we have no idea the source of the chaos! From whence the problem originates!" One of the advisors muttered frantically. "Unless or until we can isolate the variable, pinpoint the problem, would it not be safer and smoother to cut off all contact that we may more thoroughly analyze the people and places under our jurisdiction? Leave the other precincts and prefectures to figure themselves out!"

"Yes, I understand that," Haruna bowed her head in acknowledgement. "However, again, we are such a centralized location that I fear that cutting ourselves off will do far more harm than good, especially when looking at the broader, societal implications and impacts..." This was why Ms. Kasuga wasn't in class that day, and had been as such for weeks now. She was one of the brightest girls of her age, and as a neutral third party and a selected delegate of Hope's Peak Academy, that was why she was chosen to attend the meeting with the other city heads.
