Snowflakes dusted Hope's Peak Academy, blanketing the battered building in blizzard white. Despite all the hardships the poor high school—and its staff and students alike—had endured, Hope was alive and well, burning inside like a fire keeping the cold and dark at bay. The halls were lined with holiday decorations, and in the early hours of the wintry morning, there was no place livelier than the cafeteria.

All around, students either unable to commute home for the season—such as some of the foreign exchange students—or those who desired to come early, made even more decorations. Even students from the other Talented academies—like the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles, Hope's Pinnacle, and even the American campus transfer students—were present.

Makoto Naegi—one of the organizers of the event—sat at one of the tables near the heart of the cafeteria. Seated beside him were two new students of Hope's Pinnacle, Hayate Tendo and Kokoa Shinomiya.

I remember them! My sister told me about them! They helped her survive that whole ordeal in Towa City... I'll owe them for the rest of my life! It was a debt Makoto was more than happy to pay. Hmmm, but I wonder, where are their other two unit-mates...? He wracked his brains, but he could not remember what Komaru told him their names were, and he was too embarrassed to ask.

Meanwhile, miles away, still snug in her bed with her phone charging on her nightstand beside her, Michiru Kaibara—Ultimate Announcer—snuggled deeper into her blankets and smiled. On her phone, Lumina Ichihoshi's—Ultimate Hope AI and Space Idol V-Tuber—8-bit icon snored, a chat-bubble with 3 Zs in it floating over her head.

Thank goodness I remember Hayate and Kokoa's names and Talents! It's a Hope's Peak Christmas miracle, Makoto thought in relief, glancing at the Ultimate Poet and Composer. They were well-matched, weren't they? Must be my luck!

"I hope you guys are enjoying yourselves so far," Makoto cleared his throat and said delicately, fiddling with his arts-and-crafts wreath, trying to conceal his nervousness. As his underclassmen, Makoto felt a strong desire to look out for, and impress, Hayate and Kokoa. To say nothing of the debt of gratitude he felt for the sake of his sister! "I mean, ummm, with Hope's Peak as a whole, not just the Christmas decoration party. I know the school still is only a fraction of what it used to be, but I'm glad so many people were interested in celebrating Christmas this year!"
