Time moved swiftly, and before Ananya knew it, the weight of her 10th board exams was upon her. She had always been a diligent student, and though the pressure of performing well loomed large, she believed she could manage it. But life, once again, had other plans.
One afternoon, as she sat revising her notes, her phone buzzed. It was a notification from an anonymous account on social media. Curious, she opened it, but the message she read made her heart drop.
It was vile—twisted words meant to humiliate and harm her. Someone had spread lies about her online, using her pictures to create fake narratives. At first, she thought it was a cruel prank, but when the messages became more frequent and threatening, she knew it was deliberate.
She tried to ignore it, brushing it off as nonsense. But it didn't stop there. One evening, as she was heading back home after buying stationery, a stranger followed her. He cornered her near an empty lane, his intentions clear.
Ananya froze. She felt trapped, her voice caught in her throat. Before she could scream or run, a nearby street vendor noticed and yelled, scaring the man away. She ran home, her body trembling, the tears streaming down her face refusing to stop.
For days, she kept it to herself, too scared and ashamed to tell anyone. The weight of it all began to crush her—the harassment, the lies, the fear of being followed again. It was too much to bear, especially with the looming board exams.
Ananya's Thoughts
Why me? What did I do to deserve this? I thought I was strong, but I can't handle this. I can't live like this.
One night, unable to hold it in any longer, she broke down in front of her mother. Through sobs and gasps, she told her everything—the fake social media posts, the threatening messages, the man who had tried to harm her. Her mother's face turned pale, and tears welled in her eyes, but she immediately held Ananya close.
"We will handle this," her mother said firmly, her voice steady despite the storm brewing inside her.
The next day, the entire family went to the police station. Ananya's father, her mother, and her elder brother Arjun stood by her side as she filed a complaint. The process was exhausting, and the questioning made her relive the trauma, but her family's unwavering support gave her the strength to speak up.
Arjun, in particular, stayed by her side the entire time. He held her hand when she faltered, his presence a steady reminder that she wasn't alone.
That night, when everyone was asleep, Ananya sat by the window, her mind clouded with dark thoughts. She felt like a burden, a source of pain and trouble for her family. As tears streamed down her face, she thought about ending it all. She even scribbled a note, apologizing to her parents and Arjun for everything.
But just as she was about to act on her thoughts, Arjun walked in. He had noticed the light in her room and sensed something was wrong.
"Ananya, what are you doing?" he asked, his voice a mix of fear and concern.
She broke down, showing him the note, and poured out her heart—her guilt, her fear, her hopelessness.
Arjun knelt before her, holding her face in his hands. "Ananya, don't you ever think like this again. You're not alone in this. We're in this together, no matter how hard it gets. I won't let you fall, I promise."
His words hit her like a wave, breaking through the walls of despair she had built around herself. She hugged him tightly, her sobs muffled against his shoulder.
That night marked a turning point for Ananya. She wasn't healed, but she wasn't alone either. With her family's support, she began to pick up the pieces and prepare herself for the battles ahead.
