The Morning After:

Y/N sat at her desk, feeling the weight of the previous day’s emotions. Her thoughts kept drifting to the way Jungkook had looked at her—his warm smiles, his casual compliments—but they had been overshadowed by the ever-present tension between him and Yeong Ja. What was she feeling? Was it jealousy? She couldn't even focus on her work.

She reached for her coffee, but before she could take a sip, a voice interrupted her thoughts.

Jungkook - “Y/N, how’s everything going? Is everything prepared for the client meeting this afternoon?”

Y/N snapped her attention back to him, trying to shake off the storm of emotions brewing inside her.

Y/N - “Yes, everything is in order, sir. The files are ready, and I’ve made the arrangements for the meeting.”

Her tone was steady, but inside, she was a bundle of nerves. The way he was looking at her now, as if he was trying to gauge her mood, sent a shiver down her spine. There was something different in his gaze today.

Jungkook, ever the professional, didn’t seem to notice. He just nodded, his usual detached expression returning.

Jungkook - “Good. Keep me updated. I’ll be in my office if you need anything.”

As he turned to walk away, Y/N watched him, her mind racing. There was that feeling again—the flutter in her chest.

A Little Later:

As Y/N walked past Jungkook’s office to deliver some documents, she noticed the familiar voice of Yeong Ja echoing from within. She paused for a moment, taking in the sight of Jungkook leaning against his desk, smiling at something Yeong Ja was saying.

Yeong Ja - “Jungkook, I was thinking we should catch up this weekend. It’s been so long since we’ve hung out.”

Jungkook - “Yeah, we should. It’s been a while.”

Y/N swallowed the growing lump in her throat as she watched their easy conversation. The way Jungkook laughed—genuinely, without a hint of the usual distance he kept with others—made Y/N’s heart tighten.

But she forced herself to move forward, keeping her head down as she continued walking past his office, trying not to look. The bitter taste of jealousy was becoming impossible to ignore now.

A few hours later, during lunch, Jungkook walked into the breakroom just as Y/N was preparing her meal. Their eyes met for a brief moment, and for a split second, the air felt charged between them. But before Y/N could say anything, Yeong Ja entered, her cheerful voice cutting through the moment like a knife.

Yeong Ja - “Jungkook! What are you doing here all alone? Are you sure you don’t want to join me for lunch? We could catch up!”

Jungkook glanced at Y/N for a second, but before he could respond, Yeong Ja had already walked over, grabbing his attention completely.

Jungkook - “I’m just grabbing something quick.”

Yeong Ja - “Come on, you always work too hard. Let me take you out to lunch, it’s been so long!”

Y/N stood there silently, feeling a pang of something deep in her chest. She didn’t even know why it bothered her so much. It wasn’t like Jungkook owed her anything, and he was allowed to hang out with whoever he pleased, but still… the way Yeong Ja was acting so familiar with him—so at ease—made Y/N's blood run cold.

Y/N - “I’ll leave you both to it, then.”

Her voice was barely above a whisper as she quickly excused herself and left the room, the tightness in her chest only increasing with every step.

Afternoon:

As the afternoon meeting began, Y/N took her place at the back of the room, silently organizing the files for the presentation. She could feel Jungkook’s eyes occasionally flicking toward her, but each time she looked up, they would quickly turn away. It was as if he was trying to catch her attention without actually letting her know he was looking. The tension in the air was thick, but it was still impossible for her to figure out exactly what he was thinking.

Meanwhile, Yeong Ja sat at the front of the room, always so confident, always so poised. She had a way of speaking to Jungkook—something so familiar, so easy, that it made Y/N feel like an outsider. Every time Yeong Ja laughed, Y/N could see Jungkook's smile soften just a little.

And yet, it wasn’t just Yeong Ja’s presence that was causing Y/N discomfort. It was the way Jungkook kept glancing at her, his eyes lingering a little longer than usual, his attention more focused than it should’ve been. Every time their eyes met, Y/N felt a flutter in her stomach—something that had nothing to do with the work at hand.

Was he doing it on purpose? Did he know how she was feeling?

Later that Day:

After the meeting, Y/N returned to her desk, trying to focus on the pile of work that had accumulated in her absence. But her mind kept drifting back to Jungkook and the way he looked at her during the presentation. Had he noticed her?

Suddenly, Jungkook appeared at her desk again, leaning over slightly to grab the reports she had prepared.

Jungkook - “Y/N, great job today. Everything went smoothly.”

Y/N - “Thank you, sir.”

But she could hardly meet his gaze now. There was something in the way he looked at her, something deeper, and yet, it felt like he was pulling away. His focus was now entirely on the work, his attention on the reports in his hand.

And as Y/N sat there, feeling the weight of his praise, she couldn’t help but wonder: Was it really jealousy? Or was it something else????
