The air in Gianna's living room was thick with anticipation. Hana sat on the edge of the couch, her palms slightly sweaty despite her usual confidence. She fidgeted with the sleeve of her sweatshirt, trying to seem casual, but every few seconds, her eyes darted toward Gianna, who was pacing nervously in the kitchen.

"Everything's fine," Hana muttered to herself, trying to convince herself as much as Gianna.

It was the moment. Gianna had invited her over for dinner—something casual at first. Her parents were laid-back, she'd said. It wouldn't be a big deal. But Gianna had always been protective of her family, and now that she was bringing Hana into the picture, it felt like everything was riding on this first impression.

Gianna appeared in the doorway, wiping her hands on a dish towel, and her smile was all nerves and excitement.

"Okay, they're almost here," she said. "You ready?"

Hana took a deep breath, trying to steady her pulse. "I mean, I've met parents before. What's the worst that could happen?"

Gianna raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "You say that, but I know you're freaking out inside. I can tell."

"Maybe a little," Hana admitted, grinning sheepishly.

Gianna rolled her eyes with a soft laugh. "You're gonna be fine. Just... try not to scare them."

"Scare them?" Hana sputtered, leaning forward, her voice full of mock offense. "I'm not a monster, G."

"I know, I know. But my mom can be a little... much," Gianna said, her tone turning serious.

"You got this," Hana said, giving her a playful push. "Besides, what's the worst that could happen? They'll either like me or they won't."

Gianna bit her lip, giving Hana a reassuring smile. "You're right." She looked over her shoulder at the door. "Just... don't say anything weird."

"Nothing weird," Hana promised. "I'll keep it cool."

Gianna's parents arrived a few minutes later, and Gianna's heart fluttered as she heard their voices in the hallway. Hana stood up straight, smoothing her jacket once more. "Here goes nothing."

Gianna gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before opening the door. Her mom, Lena, entered first, her warm smile lighting up the room. Her dad, Marco, followed closely behind, looking equally friendly but a little more reserved.

"Mom, Dad, this is Hana," Gianna said, stepping aside to let them in. "Hana, this is my mom, Lena, and my dad, Marco."

Hana stood up, offering a handshake, but Gianna's mom immediately stepped forward and pulled her into a hug.

"Oh my god, you're even more adorable in person!" Lena exclaimed, squeezing Hana tightly.

Hana's eyes widened, her shoulders tensing. "Uh, thanks?"

"Mom, stop," Gianna groaned, a blush creeping up her neck.

Lena pulled back, laughing lightly. "Sorry, I just couldn't resist. It's so nice to finally meet you."

Hana smiled, clearly taken aback by the warm welcome. "It's really nice to meet you, too," she said, a little more at ease now.

Gianna's dad stepped forward with a more reserved smile, shaking Hana's hand firmly. "It's good to meet you, Hana. We've heard a lot about you from Gianna."

Hana glanced at Gianna, who was suddenly blushing like a tomato. "Uh, good things, I hope?"

"Oh, all good things," Marco said, giving Gianna a knowing look. "She talks about you nonstop."

Gianna groaned and sank into the couch, covering her face in embarrassment.

"Don't listen to him," she mumbled.

"I see she's got you wrapped around her finger already," Lena said, winking at Gianna as she settled into the armchair. "You must be something special."

Gianna shot her a playful glare. "Mom, stop."

"Hey," Hana said with a teasing smile, "I'm just trying to be nice here."

"Well, you're doing a great job," Marco said, sitting down across from Hana. "So, tell us a little about yourself, Hana."

Hana sat up a little straighter, trying to keep the conversation flowing. "Uh, sure. I'm from a small town outside of the city. I work as a graphic designer, mostly freelance. I've always had a thing for art and creativity."

"That's wonderful!" Lena said, clearly enthusiastic. "Gianna's always been creative, too. I'm glad she found someone who shares that. What kind of things do you design?"

"I work on a lot of branding and logo design," Hana said. "And I do some web design too, whenever I can. I guess you could say I'm a bit of a perfectionist."

"Sounds like a good match for Gianna then," Marco joked, nudging his wife. "She's always fussing over details."

Gianna shot him an incredulous look. "You're just saying that because I get my perfectionism from you."

Her dad chuckled. "Guilty as charged."

The conversation continued smoothly from there, with Gianna's parents warming up to Hana more and more as they talked. They asked her about her childhood, her passions, and what she liked to do in her free time. Hana was a little nervous at first, but as they began to share stories about their own lives, she started to relax.

After a while, the awkwardness began to fade, and Gianna felt her shoulders loosen. She glanced at Hana, who was holding her own and making jokes with her parents, and for the first time, Gianna felt completely at ease.

Her mom caught her eye and winked, her smile full of approval. Gianna's heart swelled.

"I think we're gonna like having you around," Lena said, her voice warm.

Hana beamed. "I'm happy to be here."

Gianna's heart fluttered again, this time for a different reason. Her girlfriend—her real girlfriend—was fitting in perfectly with her family. And for the first time in what felt like forever, everything felt right.

Dinner was a blur of laughter, stories, and easy conversation. As the evening wound down and the plates were cleared, Gianna looked over at Hana, who was sitting next to her, still chatting with her parents as if they'd known each other for years.

Gianna reached over, slipping her fingers through Hana's.

"You did great," Gianna whispered.

Hana gave her a soft smile. "Yeah? Good. I was nervous."

Gianna squeezed her hand, her heart full. "You're perfect. They love you."

Hana's eyes softened, and she leaned in, brushing her lips against Gianna's cheek. "I love you."

Gianna grinned, feeling warmth spread through her chest. "I love you too."

And as they all sat around the table, Gianna knew one thing for certain: she couldn't wait to see where this journey with Hana would take them. Because no matter what, this felt like the beginning of something real.
