The apartment felt different lately—colder, quieter, almost like a stranger had moved in. Paul and I still shared the same space, but it was like we existed on two different planets. He'd been coming home late more often, brushing off my questions with vague excuses like "rehearsals ran over" or "I had to meet with my agent." Normally, I'd take him at his word, but something about the way he avoided my eyes made me question everything.

I tried to throw myself into work to ignore the pit in my stomach. The album was weeks away from release, and my team was buzzing with plans for the party. Every time I mentioned it to Paul, though, his enthusiasm felt forced.

One afternoon, Taylor called me. "Fallon, have you seen the photos?" she asked, her tone laced with concern.

"What photos?" I said, already dreading the answer.

"I didn't want to say anything, but...there are pictures of Paul with this girl. They've been out together a lot. I thought you should know before you hear it from someone else."

I felt the blood drain from my face. "What girl?"

"I don't know her name, but it looks...intimate. Fallon, are you okay?"

I managed to stammer out a thank-you before ending the call. My hands shook as I opened my phone and searched his name. Sure enough, there they were: Paul, with his arm around her, smiling at some coffee shop table with a brunette I didn't recognize. Another of them laughing outside a theater. One of her arm lightly brushing his as they walked.

By the time he walked through the door that evening, I was ready.

"Hey," he said casually, dropping his keys on the counter.

"We need to talk," I said, crossing my arms.

Paul raised an eyebrow. "What's up?"

I turned my phone screen toward him, the photos glaring back at both of us. "What the fuck is this?"

He sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. "Fallon, it's not what it looks like."

"Really? Because it looks like you've been spending a lot of time with her. Who is she?"

"She's just a friend," he said, his tone defensive. "Her name's Clara. She's a new actress, and I've been giving her advice about the industry. That's it."

"Advice?" I repeated, my voice rising. "Then why didn't you mention her before? Why does it look like you're out on dates with her?"

Paul's jaw tightened. "Because I knew you'd react like this."
