As the final bell rang, Jules pushed her way through the crowds towards Mr Moor's room. Del was next to her, surprisingly, as she had been given her own hour detention from being caught smoking in the bathroom which is how they spent their lunch break along with exchanging stories about themselves - each one getting crazier and crazier.

Jules had made a friend. And she was fun, and different and kind too. She wasn't just some stuck up, cool silent type like most of the girls from New York, too cool to even crack a smile and she wasn't some prim small town girl who would never even consider breaking a rule. She could laugh and mess around and didn't raise her eyebrows every time Jules said anything that could be considered not rated PG-13.

She was pretty perfect, even if Jules had only known her for day.

She pushed open the door to see a boy in a bright green polo slumped over on a desk in the corner, a girl with long straight dark hair painting her nails next to the window and a boy with tight ginger curls scribbling furiously on a notepad.

Star's Hollow's Finest. Jules was going to fit right in, and she thought if Jess wasn't as lucky and got caught he would fit in perfectly too.

"Come on, I'll show you where I normally sit." Del passed her.

"You got a place you normally sit?" Jules laughed.

"Might as well be engraved with my name at this point." Del slid into a seat in the back next to the bookshelf, Jules slipping into the desk directly next to it. "Well now you've chosen that desk, you'll probably stick to it. Wise choice, window to your left, not too close to Nick over in the corner. Next to me."

"Why'd you choose that spot?" Jules asked Del as she turned behind her, pulling out an old copy of some book from the shelf and shrugging.

"Obstructed view. Clarissa paints her nails right in his eye site, leaving me to sit and do whatever I want in peace over here. Next to the bookshelf." Del smiled.

"Clever."

"Alright everyone, silence please, this is detention not recess." Mr Moor started as he pushed through the classroom door, placing his books down on the desk. "Look, everybody, I think we've found a new addition to our little detention group. Miss Mariano. Glad you're introducing her to Stars Hollow High well Delilah, her first day and she's in detention."

"How's it my fault." Delilah argued.

"You had nothing to do with her skipping?"

A beat of silence, as Delilah slumped.

"That's what I thought. Now we have a couple more people I'm waiting for before the party starts." Mr Moor sat down as the door swung open again. "Ah, another frequent flier, take a seat Mr Gilmore."

Jules sat up, as Sam shut the door behind him and slid into a seat towards the front. "Glad to be back."

"Where's Humphrey." Moor raised an eyebrow.

"I don't know where Josh is, sorry." Sam shrugged, and Mr Moor didn't look like he completely believed this.

"Well the detention will only double tomorrow."

"I think after three years he knows that." Sam said and even though Jules couldn't see his face she could imagine his smile.

As the silence of detention began, and Del had settled into her reading, Jules sat staring at the back of Sam's head. She wanted him to turn around, and sort of wished she picked a different seat so she had even a partial view of his face.

Ew. What was she even thinking?

She barely knew this boy, and just because they shared the common interest of enjoying smoking and disappointing parental figures - which wasn't exactly special for a teenager - didn't mean he was anything special at all.
