After 2 months
Ashi's POV:
Vansh was finally back from Dubai, from his important meeting and today the house was buzzing with excitement as relatives swarmed around, filling the air with chatter and laughter. It was the day of my mehendi, and while I appreciated how beautiful everything looked—the marigold flowers strung around the house, the aroma of jasmine and henna—I couldn't shake the nervous energy buzzing inside me.
I sat cross-legged on a cushioned seat in the center of the living room, watching as the mehendi artist worked her magic, carefully drawing intricate patterns on my hands. The women around me sang old wedding songs, clapping their hands to the rhythm, while the kids chased each other with marigold garlands.
Every now and then, my cousins would tease me mercilessly.
"Ashi, make sure they write Vansh on your hand! Let's see if he can find it," one of my cousins, Shreya, giggled.
"Write his name in the tiniest letter possible so he struggles!" chimed in another.
I forced a smile, trying to play along. "Don't make it too easy for him," I joked.
But inside, my heart was conflicted. Would Vansh really care about something as silly as finding his name on my hands? Did he even notice these little things? A part of me wanted him to, but another part—a bigger part—was afraid to let my guard down.
Vansh's POV:
I stood near the entrance of Ashi's house, watching the festivities from a distance. My eyes immediately found her in the crowd. She looked stunning, dressed in a pastel green lehenga, her hair cascading in soft waves down her back. The way she smiled at the kids playing around her, the way she nervously glanced at her hands as the mehendi artist worked—it was all so endearing.
"You're staring again," Arjun whispered, nudging me with his elbow.
"Shut up. I muttered, but I couldn't deny it. I was staring. How could I not? I am seeing her after 2 months, what else do you expect?
No messages, No calls. Nothing
"Why don't you just go talk to her?" Arjun teased, grinning.
"I will," I said, straightening up. "Right now."
As I walked toward her, a group of her cousins intercepted me, blocking my path.
"Whoa there, Vansh! You're not allowed near the bride yet," Rubina said, crossing her arms.
"Not allowed? Why?" I asked, feigning innocence.
"It's tradition! No peeking until the mehendi is done," she declared with a mischievous smile.
"Fine," I said, raising my hands in surrender. "But can I at least have some tea while I wait?"
The girls exchanged knowing glances before bursting into laughter. They led me to the refreshment table, but not before warning me to stay away from Ashi.
Ashi's POV:
I couldn't help but notice Vansh standing near the refreshment table, laughing with my cousins. He was so at ease, so... charming. It reminded me of the boy I had fallen in love with years ago.
"Look at him," Rubina whispered in my ear, startling me. "He can't take his eyes off you."
I rolled my eyes. "You're imagining things."
"Am I? Then why is he sneaking glances at you every two seconds?" she teased.
I glanced at him again, and sure enough, his eyes met mine. I quickly looked away, my cheeks flushing.
"Caught you," Rubina sang, laughing as I swatted her arm.
Later That Evening:
As the mehendi ceremony wrapped up, everyone gathered in the backyard for a dance party. The fairy lights strung across the trees cast a warm glow, and the DJ played upbeat Bollywood songs that had everyone on their feet.
I tried to stay out of the spotlight, but my cousins dragged me to the center of the dance floor. They made me dance, laughing as I stumbled through the steps.
And then Vansh joined in.
He didn't say a word, just stepped onto the floor and started dancing beside me. He wasn't particularly good at it—his moves were awkward and clumsy—but it made me laugh. For the first time in what felt like forever, I laughed so hard that tears came to my eyes.
For a moment, it felt like the old days, like nothing had ever come between us. But as soon as the song ended, reality came crashing back. I quickly excused myself, retreating to the sidelines.
