Ashi's Pov:
The warmth of Vansh's family was undeniable, but the weight of our unresolved issues loomed in the background.
As I headed to our room that night, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. This family had embraced me wholeheartedly, but the truth between Vansh and me threatened to disrupt the fragile balance we'd begun to build.
Once reached our room, I went to the washroom taking my night clothes. After freshening up, I came out of the washroom to see Vansh pacing around the room.
Vansh saw me and spoke. "Ashi, can we talk?"
I nodded, my stomach knotting. I took a seat on the end of the bed and Vansh on the sofa which was placed in-front of our bed. He paced for a moment before sitting across from me, his hands clasped tightly.
"There's no easy way to say this," he began, his voice low. "But I need to tell you about Zara."
I crossed my arms, leaning back. "I'm listening."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "When we were together, Zara... she wasn't just some random person. She was someone I knew from my past, someone who became obsessed with me. At first, I thought she'd moved on, but then she started showing up, threatening me."
"Threatening you?" I repeated, skeptical.
"Yes." His eyes met mine, filled with a mix of regret and pain. "She said she'd ruin you, your family, your reputation. She had pictures, fake messages—everything. I thought I could handle it, but she made it clear that she wouldn't stop unless I left you."
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. "So, you cheated?"
"No." His voice was firm. "I didn't cheat, Ashi. She cornered me one night, made it look like something happened between us. And about that night when we threw a party for Dhruv, Zara tried to kiss me when she saw you approaching, but I kept pushing her face away. From a distance, it must have looked like we were kissing. I was a coward. Instead of telling you the truth, I pushed you away to protect you."
I stared at him, my mind racing. "You expect me to believe that you broke my heart to protect me?"
"Yes," he said, his voice breaking slightly. "I thought I was doing the right thing, but I was wrong. I should've fought harder, should've trusted you with the truth. I'm so sorry, Ashi."
Silence fell between us, heavy and suffocating. His words echoed in my mind, each one cutting deeper than the last.
"Why now?" I finally asked. "Why tell me this after all these years?"
"Because I'm tired of hiding," he said, his eyes pleading. "I want to make things right, Ashi. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness, but I can't keep living with this lie between us."
My hands trembled as I tried to process everything. The pain, the betrayal, and now, the truth.
"I need time," I said quietly, standing up. "I don't know what to think right now."
He nodded, his expression filled with understanding. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here when you're ready."
As I walked downstairs, making my way to the garden, my heart felt heavier than ever. The truth had finally come to light, but it didn't bring the relief I'd hoped for. Instead, it left me standing at a crossroads, unsure of which path to take.
