BRAWL: Unveiling the Secrets of the Academy

Episode 5: Discovery

After the intense encounter with Ubel and learning about the mysterious Red Bay, Max suffers from a devastating gash across his chest, causing him to lose some blood and eventually pass out in front of the school. Kevin and Petunia carried Max back to Kevin's house so Kevin could patch him up quickly, there was a debate about whether they should have taken him to the school nurse but they promptly decided not to because they didn't want to get questioned. Some time passes and Max is now lying on Kevin's bed with a couple of bandages wrapped around his chest and legs. Kevin sits next to the bed on a chair watching him rest, he can't help but feel guilt for dragging Max into something like this, he never thought his research would end up in Max getting himself hurt. Soon Petunia comes in with a plate of snacks and some water, she puts it down on Kevin's computer desk as she sits next to him.

Petunia: ...so um...is he going to be okay?

Kevin: yeah...he's going to be fine.

Kevin takes a moment to himself before looking at Petunia.

Kevin: I feel horrible, how could I bring him into this not knowing the dangers that could happen? takes off his glasses i'm an awful friend...

Petunia: ! hey! stands up I know this whole situation is bad but that does not mean it's entirely your fault, you can't blame yourself just because something happened that you didn't know could...well, happen!

Kevin: what are you a motivational speaker now?

Petunia: no, but I'm sure Max would have said something like that if he was awake and heard your nonsense!

Kevin thinks to himself, he starts thinking if Max would have said the same thing just like how Petunia pointed out, it didn't take even a couple of seconds for Kevin to realize that she was right. Kevin takes a snack from the tray on the computer desk before looking back at Petunia.

Kevin: Okay look, we have a lot of time before school is over and I think we should make a decision.

Petunia: eating some chips a decision for what?

Kevin: to continue project 0, do we continue looking into the Red Bay...or do we call it off and continue our normal lives going to-

Petunia balls her fists and hits Kevin's head, cutting him off from saying anything else.

Kevin: ow! What was that for!?

Petunia: that's for even giving us the option to cut this whole thing off! Look, I know Max got hurt and that's a good reason to stop this whole thing, but even I am smart enough to see that there is so much more stuff to be found out! Plus who likes to like boring lives anyway?

Kevin: sighs what about Max huh? What do you...thinks for a second nevermind, he would agree with you sips his drink

Petunia: Hah! So I guess that settles things right?

Kevin: ...yeah, we'll keep looking into it.

Petunia grins wildly as she jumps up in excitement, she waves around her drink in the air as she does a little dance. Kevin watches her before getting suddenly pulled up from his seat to join the dance, he doesn't know any dance moves so he instead just does a little shuffle with his feet. Petunia stops and looks at him confused.

Petunia: snickering  what are you d-doing?

Kevin: what? It's a dance?

Petunia can't hold her laugh and burst out laughing, she stumbles backward before tripping over the chair, landing on her butt while her drink spills on her shorts. Kevin, seeing what happens laughs but quickly covers his mouth to hide his smile.

Petunia: ! Did you just smile?

Kevin: face gets red w-what?! No, shut up! You didn't see that!

???: chuckles softly  but I d-did...

Kevin and Petunia both hear the familiar voice of their friend, they turn to the bed to see Max waking up from his sleep. Petunia quickly walks over to his side eagerly.

Petunia: hey sleepy head! How ya feeling?

Max: I feel...okay, a little c-chest pain but I'll survive...

Petunia: you better, we still got a bunch of stuff to do together man!

Max chuckles but coughs because of his injury, as he slightly recovers from the pain he looks over to Kevin looking down at him with concern, seeing this he smiles widely.

Max: doing okay K-Kevin?

Kevin: I should be asking you that sighs but yes I am okay, and...sorry for getting you hurt Max, I never wanted this to happen to you.

Max: i-it's fine Kev, your all good. Besides, this is the most fun I've had in a while looks up by the way, whatever h-happened to that Ubel guy?

Petunia: I've been wondering that too, surely he must be up to no good right?

Kevin: hmm fixes his glasses if I had to guess I would say he's planning his next attack, and I'm sure the next time we see him he'll try to kill us all. So to counter that walks to his computer we need a plan. A plan that will give us the edge to either win the battle or put him away from us permanently.

Kevin takes a couple of seconds to bring up a blank document, and he then titles it "ideas", he then uses his desk wheelchair to move over to the lower drawer and take out a note and pen. Now having all the items he needs he turns back to his friends with his pen and notepad in his hands, Max and Petunia look at each other with curiosity as Petunia sits down.

Kevin: I'll start with my idea first clears his throat  Max, when Me and Petunia were carrying you back to my place I saw a weird shiny cube in an alley near our school, i never told Petunia about it because I figured telling you both at once would be more convenient.

Petunia: did it look dangerous?

Kevin: let me finish and I will tell you.

Petunia: ! sorry.

Kevin: as I was saying. While it is my first time seeing something like this I think it might be related to the big blast from last night, if we can retrieve that cube I might be able to look inside it on my computer, and if I can find something then maybe it could help us defeat Ubel. any questions?

Max and Petunia stay silent for a moment before Max slowly raises his hand.

Kevin: sighs you can just say it Max, we aren't in school

Max: ! Oh right chuckles Anyway I t-think we should go ahead with that plan, I mean it seems the most s-straight forward right?

Petunia: I agree, I mean, the smartest person in the group usually has the best ideas.

Kevin: heheh, well I am very very smart and not to brag but I do have straight A's in every single class.

Max and Petunia both look at each other and then chuckle to themselves, Kevin looks at them with surprise but then brushes it off with an eye roll. After Petunia stops laughing she picks up a bag, putting it on as she looks at Kevin with a nod along with a smile.

Kevin: looks at Max are you going to be okay here by yourself for a bit?

Max: yeah, I'll be fine. Don't worry.

Kevin: if you need anything my mom is downstairs in the kitchen, don't worry she's nice.

Max: chuckles I'll keep t-that in mind.

Kevin walks over to the room door and takes one last look at Max, with Petunia behind him they both walk out of the room shutting the door behind them. As they walk downstairs and head out the door Kevin looks around. confused, Petunia does the same only to find nothing.

Petunia: what are you looking for now?

Kevin: nothing, just checking around, you never know when that guy is going to show up again to finish the job starts walking

Petunia: follows yeah I guess you're right, but why so suddenly?

Kevin: if you were evil and wanted to kill your enemies wouldn't you want to take them out as quickly as possible?

Petunia: I mean, yeah but at the same time I would want them to be strong and well-rested! That way, we can have a true fight!

Kevin: mhm? That's why 99% of villains fail outside and inside of movies.

As Kevin and Petunia talk they soon reach the alley near the school, walking in they both see the cube Kevin talked about earlier, its color is null and gray as it just lays on the ground. Kevin walked over to it and picked it up, he studied it for a moment before turning back to Petunia.

Kevin: This is amazing, never thought I would be holding something like this ever, but here I am.

Petunia: does it do anything?

Kevin: hmm...

Kevin puts his hand over the cube before closing the gap, as soon as his palm touches the top of the cube it glows a bright golden color. Petunia shields her eyes for a second before looking back at it, she looks at Kevin for his reaction but sees that his eyes are glowing the same color. In a quick panic, she holds his face with her hands.

Petunia: Kevin?! Kevin! What's wrong with your eyes?!
