Sunday Evening
"So I've heard the Indian food at Meenakshi's is a best on Wednesdays" I was preparing dinner when my phone dinged and I received the message from the Rock
"and I've heard that there is thing called dark web, where the government and secret agencies hide their data" I replied
"What?" his reply came after two second
"Aren't we sharing fun facts" I replied smiling to myself
"smart-mouth"
"so what about a date on this Wednesday?" He asked
"Only if you will let me pay for desert"
"If that is what it takes....I'll pick you up at 6 on Wednesday evening"
"see you then" I replied now full on grinning
Wednesday Evening4:10 PM
"I'm thinking of wearing my black maxi dress," I told Art on the phone.
"I still say you should wear something shorter," she countered.
"I'm still saying no. If he likes me, he should like the real me, not some fake Barbie version."
"Fine! But if you don't curl your hair like you did for Janie's wedding, I'm disowning you."
"Don't worry, Aunt. I've already got a plan. Now, let me go get ready for my prince charming."
"Okay, girl. Go rock his world!" We ended the call, and I started getting ready.
I took my usual 15-minute shower, then curled my long brown hair, slipped into my maxi dress and kitten heels, and applied my makeup, including my new blood-red lipstick I'd bought on Monday.
I was ready at 5:50 sharp. To calm my nerves and pass the time, I started playing Candy Crush on my phone.
7:30 PM
Maybe Art was right. If a guy can't appreciate me at my best, how is he going to like me at my normal? But then again, maybe she's wrong. If he didn't like me dressed up, what's the point of changing my wardrobe?
So, this is what it feels like to be stood up. Humiliation and self-doubt. Wow, I thought we had a good time, but what do I know? It was only my second date, if you count the science fair with my lab partner.
I guess I should change out of this outfit now. It's not like he's going to show up.
I changed clothes, wiped away my red lipstick with tears in my eyes, and went to bed at 10 PM. I was still crying when I got a message from Rock:
"I'm so sorry, but a family emergency came up and I completely forgot about our date. I hope you can forgive me, and I'll call you tomorrow to apologize and reschedule."
His message gave me a little hope, even though it was still insulting that he'd forgotten about me completely. Maybe it was a real emergency. I hope everyone in his family is okay. With that thought, I replied:
"I hope everything is okay and everyone's well."
"Everything's fine, thanks for asking," he replied.
After that, I finally went to sleep."
As a reader I never realized how much efforts it take to write a book. Anyway, I hope my efforts are worth it and you guys are liking what I am writing.
Lyric of the day:
My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feetGuess the song.
