Next Week - Thursday Afternoon

Everything's going wrong. These finance reports are a mess, and the sun is glaring through the window. Damn it, sun! You don't have to be so bright.

"Hailey! Who made this report? It's so dumb and wrong!" I yelled.

"Which one?" Hailey asked, walking into my room.

"These... the finance report for Gensoft Technologies," I said, showing her the folder.

"Actually, Sadie, you made those reports on Monday."

"Of course, I did. I was so stupid and wrong on Monday."

"Please stop beating yourself up about everything, Sadie. It's not your fault Aidan hasn't called," Hailey said, sitting down in front of me.

"Who cares about Aidan? It's not like I'm dying without him. I survived 27 years without a guy, and I can survive 27 more."

"But you don't have to. You'll find someone who appreciates you and is lucky to have you" she said, smiling and trying to cheer me up.

"Yeah, whatever. Right now, I'm just going to enjoy my single life"

"If that's what you want," she said, standing up and leaving.

"But for what it's worth, I still think he'll call. I know him, and he's not a bad guy."

One weeks later - Friday Evening

Hailey was wrong. He didn't call, and I've made my peace with it. I should've known I was too plain for him. He was this tall, handsome, and funny guy who owned the trendiest club in town, and here I am, average height, average looks, an introverted accountant. So what if he was the only straight guy I'd ever opened up to? So what if he was only my second date? So what if he was the only guy I'd ever considered giving my virginity to? It's not even his fault. We only went on one date, and I made a huge deal out of it in my head, like some naive character in a novel.

I even thought about texting him, but I stopped myself. It was too desperate, and I still have some self-respect. Plus, he had my number, so if he wanted to, he could've contacted me.

A few days ago, Art had talked me into a blind date with a guy from a marketing department at some big company. She said, "I was wrong about Aidan. This guy is your real match." So, here I am, on a double-blind date, and the best part is, I'm going in blind too. My date, Mike, is bringing a friend, and Sarah, Art's friend from art school, is coming with me.

Sarah is stunning – tall, blonde, and with a model's figure. She looks like Jennifer Lawrence's long-lost sister, and she knows it. I'm going to feel like a potato next to her. She'd be perfect for Rock; they can have beautiful kids who can eventually rule the world.

I arrived at the restaurant on time and found Sarah already seated. We exchanged pleasantries, and when the waiter came to take our drink order, I ordered a cosmopolitan to look as classy as her. She ordered water. Of course, that's how she maintains that figure and flawless skin – by drinking water.

"So, Sadie, how's the accounting firm going?" she asked, sipping her water.

"It's going great. And congratulations on your painting being shown at the Met. That's a huge deal. I hear you might be getting some good news from France soon."

"Yeah, it's a big opportunity. I think I might get the project," she said, smiling and showing off her perfect teeth.

"Uh, good luck, I guess. I hope you get it," I stammered. She didn't notice my awkwardness because she was looking over my shoulder.

Our dates arrived. Sarah stood up to greet them, and I stood with her. As I turned to face them, my heart sank. There, standing tall and handsome, was Mike. But it wasn't him who made me freeze. It was the guy hugging Sarah. It was Rock.

"Hello, I'm Mike, and you must be Sadie," Mike said, his eyes already on Sarah.

"Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you, Mike," I replied, forcing a smile. I was proud of myself for not stumbling over my words, but my moment of triumph was short-lived. Rock opened his mouth.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, looking shocked to see me. If I wasn't so embarrassed, I would've been amused by his surprise.

"You guys know each other?" Mike asked, confused.

"Yeah, Sadie's mine," Rock said matter-of-factly.

"What?!" Sarah and Mike exclaimed in unison.
