Friday night came quickly. Sam was excited there had t been a single incident since Monday that would delay his healing. The week had gone by so smoothly it was a miracle. He dressed up in a baby blue button-up and a pair of dark slacks. Then laid out Rockie's clothes for him on the bed while he showered.
Sam looked down at the ring on his left hand and remembered the day he had received it. Ricky had shoved the ring box into his chest and told him not to take it off unless he wanted to die. Of course Sam hadn't dared even in his sleep it remained on. Not the most romantic gesture but still, for Ricky that was kind of sweet. Sam had wanted to get one for him as well but Ricky refused to give him any money to get him one. He said it was only for keeping people away and he shouldn't get all sentimental about it.
The bathroom door opened and Ricky stepped out completely naked. He was still the same height as he was back in high school but had gotten stalkier over the years. Not from fat but muscle. That had definitely affected how much his pinches hurt when he was in a rage.
"Go wait by the door I'll get dressed quickly and we can get to the reservation a little earlier," Ricky ordered.
The earlier the better. Ricky had to get this over with before changing his mind. Didn't help that Sam was looking handsome as ever in the clothes he had bought for him just yesterday.
Dinner was a very silent affair. But both men seemed uncomfortable with something they needed to get out. Sam always being the better communicator finally spoke up.
"Don't get mad." Sam began as he reached into his pocket. Ricky raised one brow wondering what was to come. Sam pulled out a small black velvet jewelry box from the inner pocket of his blazer. "I've been saving some of the money you gave me ever since you gave me my ring so that I could give you this."
He opened the box to reveal an almost identical ring to his own. Ricky hadn't spent much on Sam's ring just a few thousand having picked out the first ring he saw in the store. Sam knew that had Ricky actually purchased a ring for its intended purpose Ricky would have spent hundreds of thousands on a custom designer piece. But the thin piece of gold metal wrapped around his finger was not a symbol of love but ownership. Sam had accepted it though.
Ricky reached out to take the box from Sam's hand. He looked at the ring for a moment before hardening his resolve, then looked up at Sam who was a bit nervous and slightly confused. "Give me your hand Sam."
Sam reached out his right hand but Ricky shook his head and reached for his left instead. Sam easily allowed him to take it and watched Ricky slide the ring off of his finger. Ricky took the ring and slid it in next to the one Sam had got him. The larger man's ring could barely squeeze into the ring slit beside it. He snapped the box closed and put it into his pocket.
Sam looked extremely nervous now and let out a tense chuckle. "What's going on Ricky? You don't have to wear the ring I know you wouldn't want To I just wanted to give it to you."
"I'm leaving you, Sam."
