There he was. The obnoxious boy always walking around with those stupid headphones on. Acting like he was too good for everyone else. Fuck! Just thinking about him made my blood boil. Before I knew it I was walking up to him and pushing him into a locker.

"Hey Headphones, what you up to?" I smirked down at him not really listening to his response. But I did tune in when I heard something I wasn't expecting.

"-rother is very sick." I only caught the end of it.

"What?" I knew his little brother. He was best friends with mine. Thats the only reason I even spoke to Headphones.

Tears brimmed his usually lifeless eyes as he looked up at me. "He has a rare heart condition. He passed out yesterday and they took him to the hospital. The doctors said he may not make it."

This floored me. For the first time ever knowing Headphones I felt bad for pushing him. "Dude, are you serrious?"

"Y-yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna do if he dies." Headphones broke down right before my eyes and everyone watching in the halls just laughed.

I pulled him up, not hard since he was half my size, and carried him to the boys bathroom.

"Aww, don't cry man, I'm so sorry dude." I tried to calm him down but everyone and their mother could tell I was uncomfortable.

"Thanks Joey. My parents made me go to school today. Something about acting normal so we don't scare Simon." He took a few shaky breaths.

"Thats messed up. You can't be in school while thinking about all this shit. Come on." I took his hand and lead him out of the bathroom. The halls were now empty of all the students since the bell had rang. I lead him out of the first exit I saw to avoid any teachers. Living across the street from school was convenient sometimes. We made our way to my house.

Once inside I had to be sneaky. My mom was home but her day was usually spent in the basement in our entertainment room or just out of the house running errands. I motioned for Headphones to be quiet and pulled him up the stairs to my bed room.

"Ok, sit down and relax. You can sleep if you want to." I suggested.

"Wow Joey, I didn't expect this at all. I only told you so you would leave me alone." He confessed.

"I'm not that much of an asshole Headphones." I scoffed.

He glared at me. "Really? Cuz' you sure do sound like it when you call me that."

"Oh shit, sorry man..." I rubbed the back of my neck somewhat embarrassed. How did I forget his real name? I couldn't think of it for the life of me. His brothers name is Simon... Has Simon ever mentioned Headphones in conversation? No, it was always 'my brother this' and 'my brother that'

"You don't remember my name?" He asks incredulously.

"I remember!" I bluffed.

"What is it then?" He challenged.

Shit. "David."

"Lucky guess." David accused.

Wooo! Go me! "It wasn't a guess. Its not my fault calling you 'Headphones' for five years makes recalling your name a bit difficult."

"Whatever, I think I will sleep. Staying up all night then crying makes you tired as hell." David sighes before getting settled on the bed.

"I might as well sleep too since I can't really leave my room until schools out." I laid down on the other side of the bed and we both got comfortable.
