Cleaning up after the attack was quite easy when you have shadow clones doing all the work. Xenolith, after finishing up the clean-up, bid farewell to Amy and Lanolin before following the trail Sonic had left behind. As he ran, Nicole spoke to him.
NICOLE: "This is strange, right, Xeno?"
XENOLITH: "It is. Eggman has been missing for a month. Even I know that discreet isn't his style, and I haven't even come face-to-face with him before. It's possible there is someone behind the scenes controlling them."
NICOLE: "I have come to the same conclusion. But that just leaves one question: who is controlling them?"
XENOLITH: "Anybody come to mind?"
NICOLE: "No traces of Infinite ever since his defeat, though the Phantom Ruby remnants remain. The Deadly Six are still locked up on Lost Hex the last time I checked. Mimic is still laying low since you, Maria, Whisper and I have been hunting. In short: no."
XENOLITH: "Fantastic."
NICOLE: "Was that sarcasm?"
XENOLITH: "Indeed it was."
As Xenolith continued to skate down the path, he noticed a bellow of smoke coming from the direction where Amy said Knuckles should be. He boosted, moving just a little bit faster across the ground.
NICOLE: "My scanners are picking up a battle up-ahead."
XENOLITH: "And opponent I should be weary of?"
NICOLE: "Negative. However, please proceed with caution. I am sensing Sonic's energy as well as an unknown."
XENOLITH: "Noted."
Xenolith sped faster, eventually coming to a town with multiple destroyed Badniks surrounding it. Even a Super Badnik was destroyed, looking like it was punched multiple times. Xenolith whistled at the sight.
XENOLITH: "Impressive. Who could of done that?"
NICOLE: "Perhaps that echidna down there who is speaking to the people who run the city?"
Xenolith looked down, seeing Sonic and a red echidna speaking to a Mobian inside of a watch towers.
XENOLITH: "An echidna?"
NICOLE: "Must be Knuckles, leader of the Resistance."
The two watched as Sonic and Knuckles run up the wall and forcefully enter the town, the Mobian up top gaining a panicked look.
XENOLITH: "I wonder what's going on."
Nicole hummed for a moment, seemingly thinking.
NICOLE: "Scanners are picking up panic throughout the entire town."
