Chapter 55: The Semifinals

It was now mid-September, and the weather was no longer hot.

In the school gymnasium, an intense battle was about to begin.

On either side of the battlefield, the competitors had already taken their positions. At the referee's command, four red-and-white Poké Balls were thrown, and four Pokémon appeared with great momentum.

On Ryoma and Yuto's side were Sandshrew and Charmeleon, while their opponents sent out two Scyther.

As the referee declared the battle to start, the two Scyther wasted no time waiting for their trainer's commands, quickly darting around the arena. Clearly, their trainer had already set up a strategy before the match.

"This won't work. Scyther, use Wing Attack to blow away the Haze!"

In an instant, a strong wind swept through the arena, causing the Haze to ripple. Then, suddenly, a green figure burst out as the Haze was swept away!

"Flamethrower!"

Seeing Scyther charging forward, Charmeleon quickly unleashed a torrent of flames aimed at Scyther.

"Fly up and dodge it!"

Faced with the oncoming flames, the trainer directed Scyther to evade, clearly not intending to take an attack that was disadvantageous to their type.

"Scyther, Fury Cutter!"

On the other side, Yuto commanded immediately after seeing the attack miss.

"Dodge!"

The opposing trainer remained calm as Scyther's wings flashed and swiftly evaded Charmeleon's flames, causing Charmeleon to seethe with anger!

"Has that Scyther trained its flying ability?"

Ryoma watched the Scyther flying quickly in the air, his gaze slightly narrowing.

From his knowledge, while Scyther could fly, its flying ability wasn't particularly strong.

Yet this Scyther's flying ability was unexpectedly impressive, and the previous Wing Attack was also executed with great momentum, clearly developed for flying-type prowess.

Scyther is a Bug and Flying-type Pokémon, and with two trainers present, one focusing on Bug type and the other on Flying type, it was quite intriguing.

Turning his attention back to Sandshrew, Scyther's successive slashes had been strengthened several times, and Sandshrew's Rollout had also reached a formidable level, resulting in increasingly intense collisions between the two.

"Scyther, use Double Team!"

Taking advantage of the dust cover, the opposing trainer commanded once more, and when the dust settled, over a dozen Scyther appeared on the field, all charging towards Charmeleon!

Seeing that the opponent had finally descended from the sky, Charmeleon's rage found an outlet, and it unleashed a fiery assault against all the Scyther, immediately revealing the real one.

Then with a roar, Charmeleon's hands glowed with a flash of white light as it charged forward!

I am a noble dragon; how could I fear a mere bug!

In the next moment, Charmeleon's triumphant expression froze on its face.

From the claws that made contact with the opponent, it felt a surge of overwhelming power approaching, and its body was uncontrollably sent flying, crashing hard into the protective wall!

"How is this possible?"

"Why is Scyther's power so strong?!"

Yuto's eyes were filled with disbelief, completely unaware of what was happening before him!

Meanwhile, witnessing this outcome, Ryoma's expression changed drastically, and he hastily commanded Sandshrew to attack the opposing Scyther.

But little did he know, the opposing trainer suddenly revealed a smug smile as Scyther flew up just as Sandshrew's attack approached, completely evading the furious strike of Rollout!

"Just as I suspected, the two Scyther on the opposite side have switched positions using Double Team."

"And the Scyther that attacked Charmeleon, with its series of enhanced Fury Cutter moves, is simply too much for Charmeleon to withstand!"

Realizing the critical point, Ryoma's expression darkened significantly. They had been outmaneuvered by the opponent!

"Charmeleon has lost its battle capability."

At the same time, the referee issued the command, and Yuto could only reluctantly recall Charmeleon.

"I'm sorry, I was careless," Yuto said quietly.

"It's alright, you both did your best. Now it's my turn!"

Ryoma took a deep breath, passing the notebook he had been holding to Yuto, while his gaze turned sharp as he looked at the opponents.

"Oh, you want to take them on two against one?"

"How do you plan to do that?"

The two trainers on the opposite side couldn't help but smirk in amusement at Ryoma's confidence.

"We'll find out by trying! Sandshrew, use Rapid Spin!" Ryoma said with a subtle smile.

Upon hearing Ryoma's command, Professor Sato in the guest area immediately brightened up, realizing that Ryoma planned to utilize Sandstorm!

"Scyther, continue using Fury Cutter without stopping!"

The opposing trainer narrowed his eyes; he was aware that Sandshrew had the move Sand Attack with its spin, but he was quite confident in Scyther's ability to increase its power to the maximum with Fury Cutter!

"Use Sand Attack with a spin!"

As he watched Scyther charge in, Ryoma continued issuing commands.

"Slice right through it!"

The Scyther trainer remained full of confidence.

He had seen this move before, and its defensive power was not as strong as imagined; Scyther's Fury Cutter would be enough to cut through!
