🔥Heath Burns🔥

"We need a plan in all of this," I whispered.

"What do you suggest?" Abbey asked.

I shrugged. "Hot stuff, if I knew, I would've already told you."

"What are you thinking, mate?" Lagoona asked. Again, I shrugged. "Okay. What kind of plan?" she asked.

"One that keeps us from dying," I said.

"They're trying to save us. D told us that," Frankie said.

"What if she's lying? What if no one's  coming to help us?" I asked.

"She wouldn't lie to us," Lagoona said.

"Have you ever hung around her?" Gil asked.

"She's not a liar," Andy said.

"Her heart doesn't allow her to lie. She's too good," Jackson said.

"But this one time. Lying would make us feel better. If telling us we were going to get help was a lie, then... it'd be good for us," I said.

"She wouldn't lie. She talked to her father," Hoodude said.

"We should go out to commons, find out if he's still out there," I said.

"No," Lagoona said.

"I'm going. You guys can stay here," I said as I stood up.

Abbey sighed and rose to her feet. "I go, too."

"Thank you." So, hand in hand, we walked out of the cafeteria. And as soon as we stepped out into the commons, the lights went out. I tightened my grip on her hand. Her grip loosened on my hand. There was a soft grunt. And then the lights were back on. "NO!"

"It's been... three hours," I whispered. "We can't let him sit out in the commons with her forever."

"I've tried to take her away from him," Clawd said. "He burned me seven times. If he needs to hold onto her to grieve, then we need to let him do it."

I sniffled and leaned into his side. "Who would kill Abbey? She didn't..."

"The same monster that has killed everyone else," he said.

"But Abbey," I hissed.

"I know, sweetheart. It's bad. I know." He ran his hand down my arm. "You're father's trying his best to get us out of here. Let's just focus on that."

It was eight o' clock that night before the lights went out again. I heard Heath in the commons.

"Kill me! Let it be me!" he called.

But it wasn't him.

Because when the lights flicked back on, Dougey was dead.

Clawd let out a low whine as he stared at the corpse of his friend. I wrapped my arms around his chest as a growl rumbled in his throat. "Which one of you monsters is doing this!?" he shouted. I closed my eyes and winced at how loud his voice was in my ear. His hands moved to cover my ears. "Who? Who killed him!?" His voice was muffled, but he was yelling.

I heard numerous responses. Judging by the growl from all the wolves, none of the answers were up to par. Clawd tried to pull away from me, but I tightened my grip on him. He pushed me back with a lot of force - force that surprised us both - as he leapt into the middle of the cafeteria. On all fours, he circled the room. He sniffed the air, growls leaving his body at every turn.

I rubbed at the back of my head where it had hit the wall. It always amazed me how much strength he had, especially since he was so caring, gentle, loving. When the strength came out, he was terrifying.

"Who!?" he asked again. His voice boomed, shaking the room. Most of the monsters jumped. All but two. "You. And you."

"Clawd, they didn't do it," Lagoona whispered.

In an instant, he was next to her. She was on her back, him looming above her. "Did I ask for your opinion?" he questioned.

"No," Lagoona said. She gulped. "No, Clawd. You didn't."

"Then keep your mouth shut." He jumped backwards as he stalked back over to Purrsephone and Meowlody. "Which one of you did it?" he asked. He pushed them both backwards. "You didn't do it on your own. The doors are locked and bound by magic. Who helped you?" he asked.

"Find it out yourself, pretty boy," Meowlody hissed.

He grunted. "It's not you. If it were you, you wouldn't stand up to me like that." He moved to the side, his body pinning Purrsephone to the floor. "Why are you doing this, Purrsephone?" he asked.

"I'm not," she whispered.

"You are," he drawled. He lowered his head to her ear and whispered something that I couldn't hear. She clawed at him, her claws digging into his chest. Before I could make it to him, Howleen, Clawdeen, and Romulus were at his side, ready to attack at his say-so. I swallowed and licked my dry lips as I waited for something to happen.

"Mess with my big brother, and you mess with us all," Clawdeen said.

"I don't care! I've taken on fourteen of you so far! What's to stop me from going at four of you?" she asked. Most of the monsters in the room gasped.

Clawd pressed his hand down against her throat. "Why? Why would you do it?" When her claws dug into his arms, he removed his hand.

"I'm never taken seriously. Out of my sister and I, I'm the good one. I pull pranks, but I don't take risks. Until now. Finally, I'll be taken seriously," she said.

Clawd pressed his hand down against her throat again. "Who's helping? Who's casting the spell?" he asked. He removed his hand.

"I'm not telling you anything."

His teeth sunk into her shoulder. I ran across the room at a speed I didn't know I had. I ignored the screams as I wrapped my arms around his torso and pulled. At first, he didn't budge. And then he fell back on top of me. All of my breath left me in a single instant - good thing I didn't need to breathe to survive. He rolled off of me and pounced back to all fours. I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him back so he was sitting. From there, I wrapped my arms around his chest to keep him still. With his back pressed against my front, I had complete control of the situation.

He wrapped his arm around my back, pressing me even closer to him. He growled as Romulus and Clawdeen picked Purrsephone up.

I leaned forwards so my head was right next to his. "I know you're angry, but you're scaring everyone."

"She's a killer," he growled.

"You're scaring me, Cookie," I whispered.

He let out a long whine before wrapping his other arm around my back. And we sat like that for a while - sitting on our knees, my chest to his back, his arms around me, mine around him. "I'm sorry," he whispered after a good twenty minutes had passed.

I kissed the back of his neck and then his shoulder. "You did good. You found her. After we find our spell caster, this will all be over," I whispered.
