"Clawd?" I asked.
He looked up at me for only a second before his eyes went back to the floor plan he was working on. "What do you need?" he asked.
"Can we talk?" I asked. He nodded. I pulled a chair out from the opposite end of the table and sat down. "It's kind of important," I said.
He looked up at me as he set his pencil on the table. "Sweetheart, I don't mean to rush you, but I have to have this done by--"
"I'm pregnant," I interrupted.
He swallowed. "Oh." He bit down on his bottom lip and tilted his head to the side. "Positive?" he asked.
"Three for three on the tests," I said.
"Uh-huh." He cleared his throat and reached across the table, placing his hand on mine. "How?" he asked.
I shook my head. "I'm just as clueless as you are. Luck? A miracle? Maybe it's because I used to be human. No matter what... I just don't know," I said.
"This is amazing. I mean... you know that, don't you?" he asked.
I smiled. "Mmhmm." He stood up and walked to where I was sitting.
He pulled me to my feet before wrapping me in a hug. "I love you," he whispered.
"I love you, too."
OCTOBER
"How about we turn this one into a nursery?" Clawd asked. "I think he'll like it."
I smacked his arm. "Or she."
He looked down at me, one corner of his mouth lifting in a smirk. "I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a son," he said, shooting me a quick wink.
"Two Clawd Wolfs in the same house? No thanks," I muttered.
He chuckled and pulled me closer to him. He kissed the top of my head. "You love me and you know it."
"Sometimes," I huffed.

The triumphant smile on my face as soon as the doctor told me it was a boy made Laura want to smack me, apparently -- her words, not mine.
"You're so annoying," she said as she stared at me. I shrugged, not bothering to hide the grin on my face. The nurse walked around the bed and placed my son in Laura's arms. "Oh, Clawd," she whispered. I took a step closer to the bed and made a sound something like a soft, one syllable laugh. "He looks just like you," she said.
"He has your eyes," I said. It was true. He was a miniature carbon copy of me, but he had Laura's violet eyes. I reached out and ran my fingers along his cheek. I leaned forwards and pressed a kiss to Laura's temple. "You're amazing," I whispered.
She reached up with one hand and wrapped that arm around my neck to keep me close to her. "Look what we did," she said.
I smiled. "I know."
"He's perfect."
"He gets that from you," I said. She laughed softly, but she didn't say anything else.
TWO YEARS LATER

"Daddy!" Felix shouted. As per usual, Clawd and I pretended the child didn't exist. "Daddy!" he exclaimed. Clawd lifted his coffee mug to his mouth to hide his smile. I cleared my throat and flipped a page in the book I was reading. "Pay attention to me!"
"Do you hear something?" Clawd asked. I met his humor-filled eyes and shook my head. "Me neither."
"You can hear me! I know you can!" Felix shouted. He climbed onto Clawd's lap and placed his hands on either side of Clawd's face. "You can see me!"
"I fear I'm suffering from a loud, obnoxious growth," Clawd said. He grabbed Felix and lifted him into the air, holding him above his own head.
Felix exploded with laughter. "You can hear me!" he exclaimed happily.
"I love you, kiddo, but you're borderline annoying," Clawd said as he set Felix on the edge of the table. Felix shrugged before nodding his agreement.
"You can't tell him that," I said as I stood up.
"He doesn't even understand it," Clawd said.
"Mm." I walked around the table and picked up Felix, moving him to rest on my left hip. "You can get back to your floor plan. I'll keep him out of your hair," I said.
Clawd reached up and wrapped his fingers around my chin. He brought my face down to his and smiled. "I love you."
I smiled back and kissed the tip of his nose. "I love you, too." He let out a low growl and pressed his lips to mine.
"Ewww!" Felix exclaimed.
Clawd pulled back and shook his head. "Get used to it, kiddo. We are the only reason you exist," he said. I rolled my eyes, shook my head, and walked out of the kitchen.
