Fractured Hope
Izuku sat in the corner of the small, cold cell, his body trembling not from the cold, but from the weight of everything that had happened. His hand instinctively moved to his left arm, the place where the Resonance quirk had been forcibly infused into his body. The humming of vibrations was ever-present now, like a dull, unwanted presence in his veins, a constant reminder that he wasn't the same anymore.
His mind wandered back to Kaito - the one person who had ever truly been there for him. The one person who had understood the pain of being a test subject. But now, Kaito was gone, stripped of his quirk, his spirit shattered. Izuku had been left behind, his body a hollow shell of what it once was, forced to carry a burden he didn't want. The Resonance quirk that now flowed through him felt like an alien force, not his own, a cruel mockery of what he had been. But the worst part was the feeling that Kaito's absence, his death, had somehow made Izuku even more isolated, even more expendable.
His head dropped into his hands, the despair and grief overwhelming him. The walls of the cell felt like they were closing in on him, tightening with every passing day, suffocating him. He didn't know how long it had been since he was dragged into this nightmare of a lab. Days, weeks, maybe even months had passed, and he had lost track of everything. Time had become a blur.
The muffled voices of guards echoed down the hallway outside. He could hear them talking, shouting commands to someone Called Nomu? What a weird name, but it all felt so distant to him. What was the point of listening anymore? What was the point of existing in a place where he wasn't even a person?
Then, suddenly, the familiar hum of the lights flickered and sputtered. Izuku's heart skipped a beat. A power outage?
The lights blinked again, and then went completely dark. Silence filled the air for a few heartbeats before the chaos began.
Footsteps. Shouting. The clanging of metal doors.
Izuku's heart raced. This was it. This was his chance.
He moved swiftly, pushing himself to his feet, ignoring the dizziness that still clung to him. The vibrations from his body had become a tool, a constant force he could manipulate with effort. He could feel the resonance of the building, the tremors in the floor. His senses had heightened, and though he despised what he had become, there was no denying the power at his disposal.
He reached up, his fingers grazing the vent cover above his head. The guards were too distracted by the blackout, too focused on restoring power. He used his newfound ability to send a pulse of vibrations through the walls, careful not to alert them. The vent cover creaked and popped loose.
A few minutes later, Izuku was crouching in the narrow air vent, his breath shallow and rapid. The darkness of the lab felt suffocating, the only sounds the faint hum of machinery and his own heartbeat. His heart was pounding in his chest, a mix of fear, hope, and desperation swirling inside him.
How many months had passed since he was last free? How many days had he spent in that suffocating cell? He didn't know. All he knew now was that he had to get out. He couldn't let this be his life forever. He couldn't let them win.
Izuku crawled through the vent, each movement calculated, each breath a quiet plea for freedom. The lab stretched out beneath him, its walls cold and impersonal, the scent of antiseptic and despair in the air. But for the first time in what felt like forever, he had a sense of direction, a sense of purpose.
He didn't know where he was going. He didn't know what would happen if he got caught. But for the first time in what felt like ages, Izuku dared to dream of a world outside this hell, a world where he could be free again.
