I slipped on my dress thirty minutes before 6. My dress was a floor length strapless gown the same color as Luke's eyes. Jewels encrusted the waist line. I strapped on my shoes and grabbed my bag just as Luke rang the door bell. Of course afterwards he just walked in.
"I'm not really sure why I rang the doorbell. You look absolutely stunning my love." He told me smiling.
I gave him a quick twirl and he laughed. "Absolutely stunning." he repeated taking my hand.
He slipped a lovely corsage of white roses and blue ribbon on my wrist and I pinned the boutenier to his lapel.
"Your mom didn't want to take pictures?" I asked as we got in his car.
"Actually she does we are heading back to my house now." He told me before turning up the radio.
We arrived at his house and there was a white limo parked out front. Our friends Ashton and his girlfriend Lacey and Michael with his date Angel stood outside waiting.
"You got a limo!?" I asked excitedly eyeing the long white car.
"Of course. I wanted tonight to be perfect for you Nina." I watched Luke exit the car and he walked around to open my door for me.
The guys stood and smirked as Luke took my hand and helped me from the car. I felt like a princess but they looked at me like a little girl playing with her big brother.
"Could you like not look at me that way?" I growled at the two tall idiots giggling at me.
"Yeah guys she looks beautiful and Luke is giving her her fairytale prom. Not like you did for me." Lacey said crossing her arms over her chest with a frown.
"Oh please! Come on at least I'm here and wearing a suit!" Ashton pleaded, but Lacey stayed upset.
They were always like that. Fighting and grumbling and arguing, but deep down I think they did actually truly care for one another.
"You do look beautiful Nina." Michael said smiling and hugging me.
"Thank you Mikey. Now let's get these pictures done so we can go." I stated looking around for Luke's mom Liz.
As if on cue Liz came happily bounding out of the house camera in hand trailed by her husband and Luke's two older brothers. She looked happier than we were and she wasn't even going. Luke's mom was funny that way always super excited for anything her baby boy did.
"Okay get close and hold your dates! Yes good just like that. Okay smile!" Liz directed and then snapped probably twenty photos.
"Okay I think you took enough honey." Luke's dad told her and took the camera away from her.
We all snickered as she pouted. "Fine fine fine. Lukey come here and give me a hug before you go."
Luke did as he was told. He was a mommas boy and I loved it. After he hugged and kissed her goodbye she ordered me over and I went and hugged her. She did so to each of other kids with us. Liz was like our group mom. With one final goodbye we all piled into the limo and proceeded to prom. The interior of the limo was exquisite. White leather with black trim and real crystal glasses. We knew they were real because Ashton did the thing where you lick your finger and spin it around the edge to make it whistle. Michael plugged his phone into the auxiliary input and played us music the whole way there. It was an hour drive from Luke's house to our prom location. They had decided to have it at the country club near the beach. It'd be the first time any of us had been inside. Excited was an understatement.
"Lacey where did you get your dress it's truly gorgeous." I asked when conversation had died down.
"Oh? I picked it up from the old mall downtown. They have this huge dress shop in the back. Such a waste, if you ask me, to have such a wonderful store hidden in that dump." We discussed her dress some more until the topic got old.
"Hey Nina, what are you and Luke doing after prom?" Michael asked nearing our destination.
"Um you know I hadn't really thought about it." I said looking at my boyfriend. He just shrugged in response.
"Oh well there's a party at the cove you guys should come it'll be one hell of a time." Michael seemed super excited for this party so we agreed to go.
A few moments later we pulled up to the venue and we all stepped out. Our limo driver went to park with the others and do whatever limo drivers do when they aren't driving snotty teenagers around. I saw multiple groups of classmates walk up to the fancy building. The huge oak double doors with gold finishings were held open for us by stuffy looking men in white suites.
"This is a little excessive don't you think?" Ashton whispered to Lacey.
"The theme is fairytale you dumbass. This is perfect." She grumped and he frowned.
We walked through the double doors and down a hallway before two other stuffy men opened another set of doors. A man on the other side also wearing a white suit asked our names. We were introduced like royalty and the crowd of people already there laughed and cheered. As we descended to the party another couple was introduced above us and we cheered and clapped with everyone else.
"This is amazing!" I gawked at all the decorations and draperies. Everything was white and gold. It all looked so elegant.
We walked to our designated table and set down anything we weren't too excited about carrying around. In other words the guys stood awkwardly as us girls removed our shoes and set down our purses. Luke held out his hand for me to take and I did. He pulled me elegantly out onto the dance floor as a slow sweet song played.
"'Cause maybe you're loveable
And maybe you're my snowflake
And your eyes turn from green to gray
In the winter I'll hold you in a cold place
And you should never cut your hair
'Cause I love the way you flick it off your shoulder."Luke sang along to the song as he twirled me slowly to the beat.
"What is this song?" I asked him considering he seemed to know every word.
"It's Wake Me Up by Ed." He laughed at me. I felt instantly stupid for not knowing the song considering I was the one who showed him Ed.
We finished that song and danced to the next one. Before taking a break to get food. Michael was already seated back at our table with a huge plate of chocolate covered pretzels and marshmallows. Angel was no where to be seen.
"Where's Angel?" I asked as we sat down with our plated. I had just gotten strawberries and some dipping chocolate.
"She dancing with Julian. I'm kind of a klutz plus I don't really care. I just brought her so I didn't come alone." He shrugged and I pouted at Luke.
"Well if you want you can share my date. She kind of a klutz herself but she's decent on a dance floor." I giggled at Luke and Michael smiled.
"Thanks man." Luke and Michael had been best friends since the beginning of time. Inseparable until I came around.
In some ways I had felt guilty but it didn't seem to strain their relationship and they were still just as close. Their friendship meant the world to Michael and I never wanted to take that away. The rest of the night was filled with me switching off between Luke and Michael. Michael wasn't as bad as he thought he was but it was still a comedy act in and of itself. During line dances, like the ever present Cupid Shuffle which is played at every large dance event along with The Cha Cha Slide, we would all glide together on the dance floor to the goofy movements. However, I saved the majority of my slow dances for my prince. Once they announced king and queen we gathered our group and left. Angel stayed behind with Julian but Michael really wasn't bothered.
"I'll see y'all at the party right?" Michael asked acts we arrived back at Luke's house.
"Of course! We'll be right behind you." Luke told him.
"I don't think we will go." Lacey said slowly glancing at Ashton.
"Wait what? I wanted to go!" He grumped and she crossed her arms and popped her hip.
"No." Ashton growled but said okay and they walked away quietly fighting with each other.
We laughed at their stupidity knowing they'd be just fine in the morning. We separated from Michael and quietly snuck into Luke's house to change for the party. I kept a couple pieces of clothing at Luke's for things like this. Soon we were ready and we left for the cove.
