Yukina stumbled into her current residence in Tokyo, her heart still pounding from the recent raccoon attack she suffered while shopping. After checking over herself again and again for any signs of bites or scratches--although the raccoon had seemed like a pet so the chances of it having transferred any diseases to her were low, she washed up and made dinner, deciding to stay in for the night. For the whole week, she had a few patients coming in, one of them new, and she would meet them for the first time.
Yukina quite liked being a therapist as it allowed her to hyper-analyze people and not have them be seen as creepy. The money was good, and she got to hang out with her old therapist, even though she was no longer his patient. She worked at an overseas mental health clinic offering rather Western services. despite that fact or perhaps because of it, she would have a steady stream of clients and pay.
Checking her schedule, Yukina found that her new patients signed under the name of Edgar Allen Poe
That odd naming choice sounds quite foreign. She thought. But then again, she did work at a Western clinic.
"Karl...I'm starting to second-guess this decision...maybe I don't need therapy..." a soft voice sounded outside the door.
Karl? I don't remember being informed that two people would be arriving...more importantly, why do I feel like I recognize that voice from somewhere? She thinks as a hesitant knock sounds from the door.
"Come in!" Yukina chimes before a tall, darkly dressed man enters the room holding a familiar-looking raccoon. The two gape at each other, wide-eyed for a good, uncomfortable 5 seconds.
"W-well..would you like to take a seat?" The woman started, trying to keep things professional while the man seemed to be debating whether or not he should run away as fast as he could. In the end, he took a seat on the plush blue sofa facing the therapist.
"I don't believe we've properly met before, care to introduce yourself?" she said in a calm, welcoming tone.

"Um... m-my name is Poe, Edgar Allen Poe... and this here," he gestures at the raccoon in his lap, "Is my Son--...I-I mean pet, Karl." The goth stammered. "Al-also, I'm sorry about the other day, I swear Karl isn't like that and I really doubt it'll happen again!"
"It's fine! Really!" Yukina attempted to calm him down, she could not do her job if he freaked out before they even started. "So...Poe," The therapist says while slipping him a blank piece of paper "why don't we start with you drawing a tree, don't rush it, but also don't worry too much about how it looks." Poe took the paper unsurely and started to draw.
"Okay, I'm done." The writer said after a little over a minute. Yukina took the paper and looked over it. Despite the short time, the drawing was surprisingly detailed with little to no visible eraser marks, as if any mistakes were cleverly covered up or turned into intentional-looking details, like how an author would work to cover plot holes after discovering them, rather than getting rid of them. Additionally...
"Are you by chance, an architect?" She asked her patient.
"Well, yeah, how did you know?" Poe asked suspiciously.
"The way you drew the tree of course!" Yukina said with a smile. "Despite
freehanding it, your drawing has accurate proportions and depth, along with the way everything from the branches to the routes seems to be placed mathematically."
Poe nods in understanding. The rest of the session went by pretty well, with Poe expressing how he isn't very good at communicating with others. His boyfriend's ambiguous flirting made the state of their relationship quite unclear. Despite his awkwardness and obvious social anxiety, the architect was truly a genius. A genius who's also a perfectionist who takes it personally when someone bests him at what is considered his area of expertise. His obsession with his now-boyfriend began when he so effortlessly beat him on a case. Though he didn't directly say so, it was clear Poe was also a detective of some sort.
Geeze, how many jobs does this guy have?
Once you get him on a topic he's comfortable with (like his rivals-to-lovers thing with his boyfriend), he talks like it's the only way he can breathe! Though as much as Yukina thought the way he talked about his boyfriend was adorable, she wanted to get to know more about him and was about to voice it when he changed the subject a bit.
"By the way..." Poe started.
"Hm?" She acknowledged.
"You..you kinda look like him, my boyfriend." Yukina's emerald eyes slightly widened
at this, though that was the only hint of changed emotions on her face. Even then it was less of an eye widening as it was her elas shifting up. as she quickly switched her tone and demeanor to one of interest.

"Realy?" she asked though her tone wasn't very questioning. Her mind already running through the probabilities of what she desperately wanted. Poe seemed to be almost 30, for him to be dating a man around Yukina's age, and in turn, Tarō's, wouldn't be an unreasonable stretch...
"Yes, I even noticed it the other day when Karl...ahem..." Poe coughed awkwardly, though Yukina didn't notice. Karl... that's right! Poe said that Karl wasn't one to misbehave yet he scrambled up to her that day. Now that she thinks back on it, the critter seemed more excited than malicious. Poe's boyfriend must be familiar and even friendly with Karl, if he were Tarō, there was a chance-
"Well, I suppose Ranpo is a bit shorter than you, really, I guess the most similar traits I see in you two are your hair and eyes... I mean, I don't exactly see Ranpo's eyes much but when I do, well they are particularly striking. But even then the resemblance is uncanny!" For one second Yukina debated whether or not she should question him more about this "Ranpo", but decided against it since she was working right now, not looking for her brother. Besides, she still couldn't remember that much about him, what he liked, what his interests were. just that knowing smirk he always had, whenever he knew something before her, whenever he figured something out and was waiting for the seconds it took for her to catch up.
"You're so slow, Yukina!" he would say before that smirk twisted into a confused frown when everyone else who surely would've also known stayed seemingly oblivious. He had probably thought everything was so obvious no one bothered to state it. In hindsight now that she has a degree in psychology, Tarō probably had undiagnosed autism.
No matter, though Poe seems to think his boyfriend looked like Yukina, that was no real evidence for him being Taro. Plus, "Ranpo Edogawa" was a name far detached from that of "Tarō Hirai". Yukina saw no reason her brother would have changed his name since in doing so, would have cut him off from any assistance, insurance, or inheritance from their dead parents. Tarō was around 15 at the time of the accident, he was probably old enough to figure that out.
The rest of the session went smoothly, and since it was their first time meeting, she mostly asked Poe questions about himself and why he decided to go to therapy. When told it was mainly due to his job, the therapist noticed he looked a bit uncomfortable about the subject and decided to not pry too much, for now.
The hour-long therapy session was over and the two bid farewell, Poe standing noticeably taller than he was coming in. A few minutes later, a young woman with silky, golden hair brushed out neatly so it falls over her neck, landing just above her shoulders
