We take a stroll around the glade, making us late for dinner. When we arrive at the table, still arm in arm, the rest of our friends quiet down. Newt and I sit on one side of the table, while Thomas, Minho, and Chuck occupy the other.
"Why are you shanks late?" Minho asks.
"We're five minutes late, calm down," I say.
Everyone gets quiet.
Someone finally breaks the silence. "Looks like someone out sassed the sass queen," Thomas jokes.
Everyone laughs, even Minho.
"Seriously though, were you two having a little fun?" Minho says, seeming to only be half joking.
I blush, but Newt stays confident. "If being lectured by Thomas counts as fun then yes, we had a blast."
Everyone looks confused. "Lectured? About what?" Chuck asks.
Thomas looks over at us, saying that he isn't about explain. Newt and I can't help but laugh. Minho just looks annoyed.
"Seriously, we want to know. Nothing ever happens around here," Minho says.
"Handshakes are not allowed," is all I say.
"Or fist bumps," Newt adds.
"High fives are out of the question."
"Don't even get me started on hugging."
"Wait hugging?" Minho stops us.
Me and Newt look at each other. "Um yeah. Long story short when Thomas told me about the maze I ran into the forest and Newt hugged me and then Thomas yelled at us," I explain.
"Wait, slow down. You hugged me," Newt attempts to clarify.
"Liar, you hugged me," I shove him playfully.
"Oh come on. No way."
We probably would've kept going on like this but Minho put a stop to it. "Slim it, love birds."
Me and Newt get quiet, and Minho senses that he said something wrong.
"What? I thought you were an item."
"No," we reply in unison.
"Sorry I just figured-"
"I'm exhausted. I'm off to bed," Newt cuts him off.
"Me too, you coming, sis?" Thomas asks.
