Atlas continued walking down the hall in silence, folding the piece of paper Samato had given him and placing it in the pocket of his uniform. The sound of endless chatter fills his ears as he approaches the busy cafeteria. Already sensing it was going to be an overstimulating disaster, Atlas pulls out a pair of headphones that were tucked away safely in his backpack and puts them over his ears, muffling the hundreds of voices that echoed off the walls of the canteen.
Despite wearing noise-canceling headphones, Atlas can still hear the insistent whispers of the students as he passes by.
"Hey.. isn't that the new kid?"
"How did he get in? I thought all of the class slots were taken. Especially for the hero course!"
"I heard that his parents paid the school to kick out one of the students in 1-A..."
"What? No way!"
"Well, I heard that he was completely emotionless."
"Wait, what? Like, literally?"
"Are you sure he's just not being emo or whatever? It's not some act?"
"I saw Samato with him earlier... do you think..?"
"Wait, Samato? As in, Samato Itchiki!? You mean the kid with—"
"'Heyyy! Atlas! How are you, buddy?"
Atlas turns his head and is met with the friendly smile of Eijirou Kirishima. The surrounding students fall silent, creating a bubble of tense silence, surprised to see someone touch and approach the allegedly emotionless boy. Atlas tilts his head slightly and pulls his headphones off his ears.
"I'm sorry, I didn't hear you. What did you say?"
Eijirou chuckles. "I asked how you were. You looked like you were on a whole other planet! No pun intended."
Atlas hums, fidgeting with the cuffs of his uniform sleeves. "My apologies. I tend to zone out while in loud crowds. I did not intend to seem like I was ignoring you, Kirishima-san."
"Hey, it's no problem, man!" Eijirou reassures, patting his shoulder in a playfully rough manner and causing Atlas to stumble slightly. He then looked around, noticing how everyone seemed to be staring at them before quickly looking away.
"Say... you don't have anywhere to sit, do you?" Eijirou observed, looking back at Atlas with his signature of his shark-toothed grin. "Why don't you come sit with me and my friends? We wouldn't want you to be lonely!"
Atlas regained his footing and straightened his posture, nearly biting his tongue when he teetered. "You want... me to sit with you?" He said, raising his eyebrow slightly. "Are you sure? I'm perfectly fine with sitting on my own. You don't have—"
"Nah, nonsense! C'mon! Everyone's been dying to get to know you more anyway. We'd love to have you!"
Before Atlas had time to react, Eijirou was already pulling him by his arm, weaving around tables and students before he arrived at where he and his friends were sitting. "Guys, look who I found wandering around the lunch room like a lost puppy!" Eijirou exclaimed.
"Hey... you're that new kid, right?" Denki said, resting his elbows on the table as he looked over at Atlas.
Atlas nodded his head lightly in confirmation. "I indeed am. Atlas Supernova, at your service." He saluted as he finished introducing himself, making the table giggle.
