Chapter 10: A Dark Secret

The sunken ruins of Bikini Bottom stretched out before them, the remains of the once-bustling town now nothing more than a graveyard of rusted metal and shattered glass. Sandy, SpongeBob, Squidward, and Plankton walked carefully through the wreckage, their steps echoing in the silence. The air was thick with the smell of decay and rot, a constant reminder of the chaos the toxic gas had caused. They’d been through so much already, but it felt like they were only just scratching the surface of the nightmare that had overtaken their home.

Sandy’s eyes narrowed as she approached a hidden entrance beneath the remnants of the treehouse. A small, forgotten hatch—one she had never intended to use—lay hidden beneath piles of debris.

Sandy: "This place was supposed to be an emergency backup. But it’s more than that…"

SpongeBob: "What’s wrong, Sandy? You look like you’ve seen a ghost."

Sandy shook her head, her voice quiet but determined.

Sandy: "This place… it’s part of a much darker story. A story I never thought I’d have to face again."

The group followed her inside, into the dimly lit underground lab. Old computer terminals blinked to life as Sandy activated the power, casting a cold, artificial glow across the walls. Papers were strewn everywhere—files with faded labels, some barely legible. Sandy pulled a few from a nearby desk, her hands trembling slightly as she sifted through the documents.

Squidward: “What is all this? Some kind of research lab?”

Sandy: “It’s not just any research lab. It’s a place I built for emergencies—sure. But when I see these files… it’s all connected to the gas. The one that turned everyone into zombies.”

Plankton, who had been hanging back near the entrance, stepped forward. His eyes scanned the room nervously.

Plankton: “What do you mean, Sandy? This was just an accident. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”

But as Sandy sifted through the documents, a chilling truth became apparent. The gas—the mutation that had destroyed Bikini Bottom—wasn’t a mere accident. It had been intentionally created. The gas formula, written in clear but meticulous handwriting, showed evidence of deliberate planning. The chemical mixtures. The purpose behind the mutations. It was all there.

Sandy: "This isn’t just some fluke, Plankton. This was engineered. And you—"

Plankton froze.

Plankton: "What are you saying? I didn’t mean for this to happen!"

SpongeBob: "Then why is there a file here with your name on it, Plankton? Why is it you’ve been researching chemicals that could change our entire world?"

Sandy stared at the documents with a mix of disbelief and anger.

Sandy: “This document… It’s from years ago. It talks about mixing Aqua-X Sodium with other chemicals—chemicals that should’ve never been mixed together. The goal was never to create a cure… it was to control everyone. To create something more powerful. Plankton, you were trying to turn everyone into something you could control, weren’t you?”

Plankton shifted uncomfortably, his tiny body shaking slightly.

Plankton: “No! I wasn’t—I was just trying to make Krabby Patties better! To get back at Krabs! That’s all I wanted! I never—”

Sandy slammed her fist onto the table, her voice full of raw emotion.

Sandy: “You were trying to use the gas to control Krabs—and everyone else. You wanted to take over Bikini Bottom. That’s why you made the poison in the first place. It wasn’t just about getting back at Krabs… it was about creating your own army.”

The room went silent. Plankton’s mind raced, and for a brief moment, he seemed to come to terms with the full extent of what had happened. His experiments hadn’t just caused the apocalypse—they had triggered it.

Squidward: “So, what now? We just… keep moving? Or are we supposed to go back and stop you from finishing what you started?”

Sandy: "We can't go back. We need to stop this gas from spreading further. But Plankton needs to face the truth of what he's done. There's no going back now."

Plankton lowered his head, his voice small and filled with regret.

Plankton: “I didn’t know it would go this far. I didn’t mean for this to happen to all of you.”

Sandy didn’t say anything at first. She simply turned and began gathering the necessary papers, the files that might hold the key to ending the madness. But even with all the knowledge at their disposal, the weight of the truth hung heavily in the air.

Sandy: “We have a choice now. We can either sit here and let this continue, or we can stop it. We’ll need all the ingredients for the antidote. And we need to finish what we started. The question is—are we willing to do what it takes?”

The group nodded, though each of them wore a different expression. They had come this far, and there was no turning back. What they had learned in this dark, hidden lab had changed everything. And now, they would need to find a way to stop the destruction—before it consumed them all.
