Chapter 19: The Last Stand
Bikini Bottom had become a ghost town, its once vibrant streets now overrun with the twisted, shambling remnants of the people they had known. The air smelled like rot and decay, a constant reminder that every moment they wasted brought them closer to losing everything.
Sandy, SpongeBob, Squidward, and Plankton had gathered near the edge of the destroyed town, their eyes fixed on the massive structure that lay ahead—the old Bikini Bottom Research Lab. It was their final destination, where the antidote could be administered and, hopefully, bring an end to the nightmare.
But as they approached, they could hear the unmistakable sounds of dragging footsteps—the moans and growls of the infected. Zombies were everywhere, wandering through the ruins, their rotting eyes fixed on the living.
Sandy (gripping her blaster tight): "We’ve got one shot at this. If we don’t make it to that lab, we’re done for."
Plankton (from inside his mecha): "I hate to admit it, but Sandy’s right. We need to stay sharp. We’re not just fighting zombies now—we’re fighting time."
SpongeBob, despite the overwhelming fear, managed a nervous smile.
SpongeBob: "We’ve made it this far, guys. We can’t stop now. We just need to stick together and push through."
Squidward (with a sigh): "Yeah, yeah. I’m not dying today."
The group nodded grimly and started moving, keeping to the shadows as they made their way down the broken streets. The path to the lab was riddled with obstacles—zombies, debris, and the eerie sense that something was watching them. The sounds of distant groans grew louder, and soon, the first wave of infected appeared from around a crumbled building. Their skin was discolored, their eyes hollowed out like lifeless pits. They were hungry. And they were fast.
Sandy (raising her blaster): "Move! Don’t stop until we reach that lab!"
A fight broke out as the zombies surged forward, their decayed bodies flailing. Sandy’s blaster fired off one after another, knocking the zombies back. SpongeBob swung his spatula, knocking one of them across the street, while Squidward fought back with a makeshift club. Even Plankton, using his mecha suit, was effective—launching electrical bursts that short-circuited any zombies in his way.
But it wasn’t enough. For every zombie they took down, more seemed to appear. It was as if they were being drawn to the group, sensing the last hope for salvation in the antidote they carried. The group pushed forward, their hearts racing as they neared the lab. But the zombies were relentless, and with every step, it became harder to keep them at bay.
Squidward (frustrated, panting): "Why are they so damn persistent?!"
Sandy (gritting her teeth): "We have to move faster!"
SpongeBob (nervously): "We can do this! We’re almost there!"
Just as the group reached the lab’s entrance, they were cornered. The streets were teeming with zombies, and there was no way around them.
Suddenly, the unmistakable sound of loud footsteps echoed from behind them. The ground trembled as a massive, mutated creature—twice the size of a regular zombie—stepped into view. It was a hulking monstrosity, a grotesque hybrid of SpongeBob’s old neighbor, Old Man Walker, and some other horrifying mutation. It had bulging eyes, sharp, jagged teeth, and its body was a twisted mess of broken bones and flesh.
SpongeBob (eyes wide in horror): "What the…?!"
Sandy (pulling out her gun): "Everyone back to the lab! We’re not gonna survive this unless we stick together!"
Plankton (shouting from his mech): "It’s too big! We’ll never be able to take it down in time!"
But Sandy wasn’t backing down. She immediately began firing at the giant creature, but the bullets barely pierced its thick skin. It roared, swatting away the zombies as it lumbered toward them, eyes locked on Sandy.
Sandy (gritting her teeth): "We need a plan—NOW!"
Squidward (looking around): "Wait! There’s an opening! Right there!"
He pointed to a small gap in the destroyed building to their left. It was barely big enough for all of them to squeeze through, but it was their only chance.
Squidward: "We can outrun it. It’s our only shot!"
Sandy (nodding): "Everyone, move! NOW!"
Without wasting another second, they dashed toward the gap, dodging zombies as they ran. The giant creature roared behind them, snapping its jaws. Just as the group reached the gap, the creature swung its massive arm, knocking Sandy and Plankton off their feet.
SpongeBob (yelling): "Sandy! Plankton!"
Sandy, struggling to get back up, looked at SpongeBob with determination in her eyes.
Sandy: "Go, SpongeBob! Get to the lab!"
Plankton (shouting): "I’m fine, just go!"
SpongeBob hesitated for a moment but knew there was no time to waste. He pushed forward, leading the others through the gap and into the lab’s entrance.
The group stumbled into the lab, exhausted and battered, but alive. They quickly secured the antidote in a machine that would disperse it across the surface. Sandy set the machine into overdrive, praying they were not too late.
Sandy (pressing a button): "This is it. We’ve done all we can."
But the danger was not over yet. Outside, the horde of zombies, including the giant creature, was closing in.
Sandy: "We need to finish this… NOW."
With one final push, Sandy activated the antidote dispersal system. The gas began to release, filling the air with a faint, sweet scent that promised salvation. The group watched through the glass as the gas spread through the streets of Bikini Bottom.
Sandy (relieved): "It’s working…"
But just as they thought they had won, the building shook. The walls cracked. They could hear the roar of the giant zombie monster pounding at the door. The antidote might have started its work, but the group knew they were running out of time.
They needed to survive long enough to see Bikini Bottom healed.
