“Kids, your father and I have some news for you.” My mom stated at the dinner table.
“You’re pregnant?!”
“You’re getting a divorce?!”
“We’re moving?!”
“You’re sending Ben to military school?!”
“You—what? HEY! Shut up Jen!”
“Kids, quiet! Do not interrupt your mother while she’s talking to you.” my dad interrupted sternly. Ben and I both shut up and went back to eagerly awaiting my mom’s ‘news’.
“Well, I have to attend a conference in D.C. this weekend and unfortunately your father also has several open houses in Montana. We will both be gone for the weekend due to business.” My mom said seriously.
“Oh. That’s it? Mom, it’s no big deal we can handle ourselves for the weekend.” I replied casually.
“We know you can honey, but in case of an emergency, we already spoke with the McClures and they’ve agreed to be available whenever you need them."
“Wonderful” I mumbled sarcastically under my breath.
“Although, on Saturday night Mr. and Mrs. McClure will be attending a wedding up-state so we’ve agreed to let Matthew stay the night with you two just to be safe” she explained.
Great. That’s just fantastic. Matt McClure sleeping in my house for a night. I’m so freaking ecstatic.
I felt Ben nudge me with his elbow and when I glanced at him he had that mischievous look in his eye which could only mean one thing: he was planning something, and knowing my brother it probably had a little something to do with teenagers, music, dancing, and booze.
Yep, time for a good old-fashioned PARTAAAAY!!!!!

The phone rang once…..twice…..oh come on pick up……three—“Hello???” she finally answered.
“Brooke, who the hell is calling you so late?” I hear a faint male voice mumble from the other end.
“My lover” she replied.
“What!” the male voice shouted, and I could now recognize it to be Miles. I heard heavy footsteps and a lot of banging coming from the other end until Brooke finally yelled “Chill out Mi, it’s just Jen!”
“Wow what a wonderful way to be greeted by my best friends” I said sarcastically.
“Sorry Jenny, you have our full attention now! You’re on speaker phone by the way.”
“Hey Jen!” Miles called out.
“Hey guys! So how are things up in Rhode Island?”
“Meh, could be better” they said at the same time…again. “Enough about us, I wanna hear all about your first day back as a SEEEENIORRRRR!” Brooke sang.
I laughed, “Oh, you know. Same old, same old” I tried to downplay it but those twins aren’t dumb enough to fall for anything.
“……………..Yeah. And I’m Oprah’s sister” Miles said. “Seriously Jen?”
“Okay better question!” Brooke took over. “On a scale of one to ten, how pissed is your boyfriend that Matt is back?”
“Oh, I’d say maybe…one…….ZILLION!” I yelled and they both cracked up. “Hey! I’m serious guys, this isn’t funny! Like Dylan was pretty pissed at lunch, but once practice was over he looked like he was ready to murder a basket of puppies” I whined.
