“And so then Carly texted me and said that Catherine’s Closet is having a dress sale, which I think we should totally hit up this weekend before we hit the spa…” Britt was rambling on to me with her eyes glued to her cell phone.

I swear I had to push her out of the way of like three garbage cans on the way to our lockers.

“Uh huh, sounds good” I replied halfheartedly as we entered our Shakespeare classroom.

Honestly I have way too much on my mind right now to think about shopping.

“Alright class, settle down.  I’m going to start off this semester with a fun little project!” Mrs. Ross, our Shakespeare teacher announced and the entire class let out audible groans.

“Now, now, this is the beginning of the year!  Do you really think I’m going to torture you that much?” she laughed, “this isn’t a research project or anything, the only work you’re required to do is choose a scene from any of Shakespeare’s works and perform it with your partner for the class!” she explained.  “How fun does that sound!”

A chorus of halfhearted ‘yays’ and ‘awesomes’ and even a few ‘meeehs’ and ‘ehhs’ echoed through the classroom.

“Alright kids, to make it easy on everyone, just partner up with whoever is sitting next to you.”

It’s times like these when I feel oh so grateful that I always sit next to Britt in most of our classes.

As the rest of the class began to acknowledge their partners, Britt and I took the opportunity to chat quietly.

“So what’s bugging you?” I asked giving the ‘I know something’s up, so don’t even try to fake it’ look.

“Something’s bugging me?  What ever do you mean?” she replied, feigning ignorance…and failing.

“Don’t pull that Britt, spa days only happen for four reasons: prom, boys, brothers, or bitches.” I stated as her expression changed from innocent to guilty.  “So which one is it?”

“Weeeeeell….— ”

“Uh oh!  Looks like we have an odd number of students, one pair will have to be a group of three!” Britt was quickly interrupted by Mrs. Ross. Damn now I have to wait till Saturday.

I didn’t really want a third person in our group.  That’s just not how it works with Britt and me.

It’s like she read my mind too because we both quickly snapped our heads down, pretending to be incredibly absorbed in Macbeth.

Unfortunately our attempts were in vain, because the next thing I heard was, “well since Miss Thomas and Miss Taylor seem so engaged in their studies, you might do quite well in a group with them”

I suppressed a groan as I let my forehead thump against the desk.  Thanks Mrs. Ross. So much. Really.  I thought sarcastically.

Just then I felt Britt kick my shin from under the table, “Ouch! What the hell, Britt? Those heels hurt” I gave her a confused look, but then I saw that she was staring in the other direction.

“What are you….oh crap” my face fell when my gaze met his.

“Hey partners!  We’re gonna kill this project” he said with a wink and a smile that almost made me melt in my chair.

I had to clench my jaw tight to keep a laid back expression and prevent any obvious swooning from occurring.

Damn.  And here I thought I could get away with Britt’s ‘stay away and don’t let him get to you’ plan.
