"Maddy~"
I didn't even look up from my parchment. "No. I'm not going to help you with your stupid Aging Potion." My quill scratched against the surface of the paper as I continued working on my Potions essay, the deadline looming like a dark cloud over my head.
The trio—Fred, George, and Lee—exchanged exaggerated looks of disbelief, their mouths agape as if I had just announced I hated Quidditch.
Fred broke the silence first. "We didn't even say what we were going to ask yet!"
I huffed, finally setting my quill down to glare at them. "You didn't need to. You're not exactly subtle, you know. You've been whispering about it all week, and frankly, you're terrible at whispering." I gestured toward my parchment. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than listen to your scheming."
The boys groaned in unison, dramatically flopping onto the table in front of me. "Come on, Maddy," George pleaded, grabbing my arm.
"You're the smartest person we know!" Fred added, holding my other arm.
Lee chimed in, leaning forward with his best puppy-dog eyes. "And you love us, don't you?"
I stared at them, unimpressed. "Then don't love me. Problem solved." I yanked my arms free, picking up my quill again.
"Oh, come on!" Fred groaned, throwing his head back.
"You're our only hope!" George added, giving me a shake.
"Do you really want to see us fail?" Lee asked, clutching his chest as if the very thought caused him physical pain.
"Do you want me to fail my Potions essay?" I retorted, waving my half-finished parchment at them. "Because that's what's going to happen if you lot don't leave me alone."
The three of them huddled for a moment, whispering conspiratorially. I rolled my eyes, trying to block out their ridiculous antics, but then they turned back to me with renewed determination.
Fred crouched beside me, leveling me with a pleading look. "Mads, think about it. If we succeed, we'll make history. History!"
"And if we don't, we'll still be legends," George added, as if that was supposed to be enticing.
Lee leaned in closer. "We'll even split the winnings with you."
I blinked. "What winnings?"
Fred waved his hands dramatically. "The eternal glory of pulling off a prank that outshines anything ever done at Hogwarts."
George smirked. "And maybe some chocolate frogs. We know how much you like those."
Lee grinned. "And butterbeer! Unlimited butterbeer for a month!"
I raised an eyebrow. "You don't even have butterbeer to give."
"We'll get it!" Fred promised.
I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. They were persistent, I'd give them that. "Why do you even need my help? Don't you already know how to brew the potion?"
Fred and George exchanged guilty looks.
"It's not... working out," George admitted sheepishly.
"It keeps turning green," Fred added.
I let out a long, exasperated sigh. "You lot are hopeless."
The boys immediately perked up.
"Does that mean you'll help?" Lee asked eagerly.
I groaned, burying my face in my hands. "Fine. But only to make sure you don't blow up the entire castle."
The trio erupted into cheers, Fred and George grabbing me in a celebratory hug while Lee pumped his fist in the air.
