It's been a couple of months since I've tone my acl. I've been recovering and my physical therapist said I was doing great. I'm walking without my brace now and I've been doing great.
I miss being able to play basketball and just being able to give my all out on the court. Z's been by my side the whole time through this injury.
Most days I'd either be at home, the teams facility, or the doctors. The trainers would try and get me to do some upper body exercises to help me and try to give me something to do. I was slowly getting back onto the court and practicing.
I was currently on my way to the brunch with Z. I was slowly getting back into my groove and Z said that she wanted to do something nice.
Zaria and I were talking about this show we just finished watching. Zaria was giving her opinion on one of the characters when I felt a vibration in my lap.
I checked and saw that I had a message from Ivy. We've still kept in contact from time to time. I hadn't really seen her in a few months due to my injury.
Our texts really only consisted of her checking up on me and just wondering about my recovery.
Ivy's text message said 'hey! How are you? I saw your insta post. It's good to see you getting back!'
I responded back with a simple text, letting her know that I was good and I also told her thank you. She hearted the message and we left it at that.
The rest of the ride to the restaurant with Z was fun and calming.
As Z parked the car, I looked outside the window, staring at the building we were about to go in. Once she turned the car off, I un-buckled my seatbelt and got out. We walked hand and hand into the place.
The place was very cute and homey'. The decorations fit with the vibe really well. There was a small podium with a woman, who I'm guessing was the hostess was. "HI! Table for two?"
Z nodded and the woman led us to our table. "This place is so cute! I found it on TikTok." Z said as looked around us. I agreed before picking up my menu.
Zaria and I looked over our menus. "I think i want pancakes." She voiced, flipping through the pages. I hummed before speaking up, "I might get waffles." Seconds later, Our waiter came over and asked what we wanted to drink.
Z and I agreed to get mimosas. He then asked if wee were ready to order, which we were.
We put in our orders and watched as he walked away. The table at the conversation was light as me and Z were scrolling on our phones.
The waiter came back and sat down our drinks. "I've put your orders in, they should be done in a couple of minutes."
"Okay, thank you." I said. I scooted my drink closer to me and took a sip of it.
"So, about that dog," Zaria began, stirring her orange juice. My eyes traveled up to hers as she spoke. "I was looking at shelters online. A golden retriever or any type of small dog. I either want something big or small, no in-between. Oh! And something relatively low-energy, considering your knee."
I smiled, a small wince flitting across my face as I shifted in her seat. "A low-energy dog sounds perfect. I'm still recovering, but things are definitely looking up. My physical therapist is helping a lot. And considering your schedule and stuff and with you being tired, we probably need a low energy dog.
I continued, describing my progress. "I've been doing light exercises, mostly range-of-motion stuff. My physiotherapist says I'm getting better. I started jogging a couple of miles last week and, hopefully, I can get back on the court for more than an hour sometime next month. It'll be nice to have a dog to motivate me to get out more, once I'm fully recovered."
Z smiled at me before taking a sip of her drink. Just then the waiter came back with our plates. "Here you go! DO you guys need anything else?" Z and I shook our heads no. "Well I hope you guys enjoy." He said before walking away.
Zaria took a bite of her pancakes, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Maybe we can even start going on walks together." Zaria voiced enthusiastically, already picturing our future life with a furry companion. "Other than me running around the hospital and doing small stretches, I don't really workout much."
Z held my hand in hers. "That sounds wonderful! A dog and you back on the court—it'll be a great year!"
We spent the rest of brunch discussing potential dog names and breeds. The mimosa glasses slowly became half full and then empty. Our brunch was a testament to the joys of our shared plans and the promise of a bright future, together.
Mimosas sat empty beside our empty plates that no longer had food on them.
I payed for our meal before we headed out the door. Once Z and I were in the car, We made plans to go to a little outlet and do a little bit of shopping.
With the new year being here and with me getting back on the court, I knew this year would be great.
