Chapter 9

Lilith

I lay in bed and stare at the ceiling, thinking about what I'm going to do. I can't have a mate. 'Elara, what do you think? Did the witch lie to us? How do we have two mates?' 'I think she really thought she got rid of our mates and the pain you felt was a side effect of the process, but it didn't break just went to sleep.' She sounded unsure, but it was the best I could think of too. 'What are we going to do now? I don't think this is a good idea. How are we gonna handle all this and train more to take down father?' 'Maybe they could help us?' Elara was always more levelheaded than me when it came to things like this. 'I don't think I can handle them wanting to be near me right now. I still can't sleep a full night without nightmares.' 'Why not give it time and think about it like you said to the dragon and when we decide we can tell them what were going to do?' She tried to sound sure of the decision, but I could hear the hope in her voice, she wanted her mates but was worried about me. 'I can do that for you Elara.' I tell her and then turn over and try to get some peaceful sleep.

It was not the sleep I wanted and by morning the nightmares still caused Thalia to wake me up multiple times. You can see it in the bags under my eyes that this is going to take a while to get over. I get up and get ready for my run. Once I put on my shoes I'm out the door. This time my run isn't interrupted by a giant dragon.

Thalia is up by the time I get back. I shower and put on my jeans and a soft pink sweater that hangs off one shoulder. Because today we are learning runes and restoration, I decided to wear my softest shoes that I can just slip on and leave my hair down. Thalia is in a red dress that stops just before her knees and strappy sandals. She wore her hair in a braid to one side and I can tell I was staring when she laughed at me again. "It's an adjustment but once your around me for a while the siren beauty won't affect you." I just nod and grab my bag, ready to get some food.

This school has an interesting breakfast routine. Its whatever is able to be carried around while on your way to classes. So any type of food, or non food in other cases, that can either be held by hand or cup is what you can get. Today I got two breakfast burritos and a parfait. I put on burrito in my side pouch and the parfait in the other while I ate my first burrito and drank my coffee. By the time I got to class all of it was gone.

This class is something different from the castle though. The desks sit with two chairs each and random items sitting on them. Once we get to class Thalia and I take a seat in the middle and wait. The teacher walks in and I can tell already this is going to be a great class. 'Vampire' Elara says and settles back in my head. I get excited because she seems like the happiest vampire I have ever met. If sunshine was a person, it would be her.

"Hello everyone, I am Professor Lightburn." She says with a smile and some of the people around me laugh. "Yes, I get that reaction all the time. I am well aware of the humor. Today we are going to work on identifying and labeling the items in front of you. When you are done, we are going to be naming the ways in which they can be used both for you and against you." She pauses and looks around the room. "If you know what they can do to the fullest you can prepare for anything."

She tells everyone she is here for anyone who has questions and sits down. The rest of the class goes well, and I find myself enjoying it, even if I have already learned this, I can help Thalia. After morning classes and lunch, we head to our defensive training. Everyone is here and the black clothes they give us do not hide anything, they are tight and stretchy to let us move without being targets for anyone to grab onto. Thankfully it is pants and a tank top. Once I put my hair up I wrap it around the ponytail and tie it so that it does not fall and become something that can be grabbed.

Thalia had the same idea and when we both get to the field, we are surprised with how many people are here. My eyes are drawn to one side of the field, and I find my "mates" instantly. They start to make their way over, but my vision is blocked by two people in front of me.

"Well, this is who is taking all of Khonsu's attention?" she says with a snarky look on her face. "Who are you" I ask her, because I've never seen her before. "Stay away from him, he is my fiancé" she says and turns on her heel and leaves.

Thalia and I look at each other and then start laughing. "What was that?" I manage to get out in between breaths. "That was one of Khonsu's many admirers," she says and can't seem to stop laughing. "People here really are crazy," I mutter under my breath.

As my mates get to me the professor gets to class and says "Pair up and begin. Today I will be evaluating your ability to fight and defend." Then he steps back and waits. The crazy one from earlier shouts "Professor, do you think we should pair up with people we don't already know so that we actually have to try to fight?" He looks around and then nods "That would indeed make my evaluation better. Very well, everyone pair up with someone you don't already know." The crazy girl comes up to me and says "You're mine. Now let's see how much I can destroy you before you leave this school." Then she throws a punch right to my nose.

I lean out of the way and stare at her. 'Whatever she is she's slow' Elara says. 'Wear her down so that we can have some fun' Then she lays down in my head and watches. I nod and begin to dodge every punch and kick she sends my way. I haven't even tried to hit her back yet and she is already sweating and out of breath ten minutes in. Finally, I let her land a punch to my shoulder. Just to see if she has any force behind it and I'm surprised when it immediately bruises but didn't move out of place. 'Seems we were underestimating her punches a little' I tell Elara then ask if she's ready. 'Lets go' she says.

I change my stance to an offensive one and begin. I land a punch to her nose first just to see if she can block me, but she didn't even react until my hand had already retracted. Then I land a kick to her knee, side, and even trip her before she tried to fight back. When she gets up I can tell she's mad. She tries to land another punch but I block it and punch her in the stomach. Then I turn and sweep her feet from under her and step back. She just lays on the ground breathing hard for a minute.

The professor walks over and tells us that our demonstration is over and we both are to take a seat and watch from the side. I leave and go to watch Thalia. What I don't see is the ball of light that is coming for the back of my head until it's almost on me. Before it gets a chance to hit Khonsu is already behind me and takes the hit. Only problem the hit knocks both of us through the air and I hit the side of the building. I go to get up but once I stand the world around me drops from under my feet and I greet the darkness once again.
