Chapter 7

Alaric

"What are we going to do about him?" I sigh as I sit back on the couch and turn towards Wren. He looks at me for a minute before replying "I have no idea what I'm gonna do with either of you." "Me? Why me? What did I do?" I looked at him puzzled. "Really, you came in here to tell us about a girl that you have been beside for days because you couldn't bear to stay away from her. You told us all of this and didn't even see her eyes or did you not look? You know it's a possibility and Khonsu could be wrong." He said with his arms crossed like he was scolding me.

I paused; he could be right Khonsu was a late shifter so finding his mate so soon after shifting would be a miracle. Not that I'm not happy for him if he is right, I just don't know what to think of my reaction to her. I stand and tell him I'm going to get ready for class so we can leave to find Khonsu. I chose to wear a blue shirt and my dark jeans and just let my hair do its thing because I knew I was going to see her at our first class as all first-years have it together.

Stepping outside with Wren we head towards our class. Khonsu comes out of the forest as we get there; of course, he is only in his shorts. He still looked as stressed as he did when he left. "You better?" I asked him but he just shook his head and started to go to his group. Mr. Steinbeck took Lilith towards the little building in front of us and I couldn't help but follow.

Once I get to the front I hide beside the steps and wait. "My father thought it would be better for a witch to control them than for me to have any powers at all. I have no idea what I can do because I was never allowed to find out" I hear Lilith say and I can already tell I hate her father. Rage consumed me when I realized that in order for a witch to take control of her powers it would cause her a great deal of pain and her father was okay with it. 'I definitely hate him, he better hope he never meets me or its on sight' I think to myself. As I calm down I hear the tail-end of the conversation as Lilith says "Do it" Then all I hear is her scream.

I don't even think as I jump up the stairs and burst through the door to see Lilith surrounded by what looks like a bubble of energy and seems to be silently screaming. "What did you do to her?!" I scream at the witch, but before she can answer two more people run through the door. Wren and Khonsu stand there in shock but I am not worried about them just Lilith. Mr. Steinbeck steps around her and says "She was being blocked and needed to have it broken, it is painful but she will be able to use her element when she is done." I step towards her and he puts his hand up to stop me. "You cannot be serious she is in pain-" "She will be fine when she wakes up" the witch interrupts me.

"Now what are we going to do about this" she says as she looks at us. I have no idea what she is talking about and neither do the others as we look at her. "What are you talking about" I ask as she steps towards Khonsu. "You found her so fast, didn't you?" She stares into his eyes as she asks and he nods his head. "You must make sure you protect her." She turns around and walks back towards Lilith.

The bubble around Lilith fades and she falls to the floor but Khonsu catches her before she can hit it. He looks at Mr. Steinbeck and he says "Alaric can show you to her room you will be given access this one time." The witch looks at us and just says "Interesting" as she turns away and begins working on some sort of potion.

I lead everyone back into the dorms and up to Lilith's room. When we enter Khonsu sets her on her bed before starting the fireplace to keep her warm. "Are we supposed to stay here until she wakes up?" I ask everyone, but no one answers. I don't think anyone knows what to do in this situation. I turn around and see Wren standing by the door. He hasn't said anything and that's unusual for him. Any weird things happen and he's the first one with a solution usually. He has his hands in his pockets and he seems like hes thinking hard about something. I don't question it and turn back to Khonsu.

He pulled her desk chair to her bed and is sitting there just staring at her. It seems like hours have passed since we brought her here but I know it cant have been more than a half hour before her eyes start to flutter. She opens her eyes and jolts like she was scared.

"Who are you?" she asks all of us. "I met you this morning, but I don't know the other two. What are you doing in my room?" she pauses and looks down at herself and lets out a breath. "Thank the gods" I hear her mumble under her breath, and I can see the moment Khonsu realizes what she means. He stands up and backs away with his hands up.

"We heard you scream during class and Mr. Steinbeck told us to bring you back to your dorm. We would never hurt you, so please don't worry about that. These are my roommates Alaric and Wren." He shifts his head towards us as he says our names and I hear Wren suck in a breath before he leaves the room without saying anything.

Lilith hasn't said anything else but I can see her thinking about something. She sits up and holds her head, then she looks at Khonsu and says thank you before she looks at me.

I can see the shock in her eyes as they meet mine and I know this is going to be a huge conversation that I need to have with both of them soon. Khonsu is staring at her as she tells me thank you and looks away. I look out her window and tell Khonsu that we should head home to check on Wren. He looks back at Lilith and then at me.

"You guys should go before my roommate gets back she doesn't like having guests here that she doesn't know" she says and stands up. "Okay but if you need us we are on the second floor, last door on the left." Khonsu says and we leave. Once we leave we head towards our room and find Wren sitting on the couch with his head in his hands.

"We need to talk," Khonsu says and stands between Wren and me. "What about" I ask and hope he didn't see what happened in the room. He turns his head to me and lifts an eyebrow. I say nothing, I don't want to be the reason Owen comes out again. "It happened, didn't it?" he questions. I don't answer but Wren asks, "What happened?" "He saw her eyes" Khonsu looks closely at me. I take a deep breath and prepare myself. "Yes, it happened" I deliberately don't say anything else hoping he will drop it. I'm not lucky and he just stares at me. "Fine, yes, okay, it happened. She's my mate."
