Chapter 8

Wren

I heard what Alaric said but it was like everything was muted I just got up and all but ran to my room. I slammed the door and rushed to the bed. As I sat down, I took a deep breath and looked down at my wrist. 'This isn't possible' I mutter to myself as I stare at the mark on my wrist. There it is in all its glory... my mate mark. It's beautiful, just like she is, I think to myself.

The mark itself is not like any other I have seen. Usually, they have some specific design unique to the people it's between, but I have never seen anything this detailed before. It's the triple moon symbol, but the middle moon is filled with the tree of life. It has the moon phases on each crescent moon too.

I hear a knock at the door, bringing me out of my thoughts, and tell them to come in. Alaric and Wren walk in and stare at me. "What's going on, you always have something to say when things like this happen," Alaric asks. I shrug my shoulders and keep my wrist facing away from them so they can't see it. I need answers before I tell them about this. "It just doesn't make any sense; you both can't be mated to the same person that only happens to royals and even then it's extremely rare.

We look at Alaric and he shrugs, "I may be a prince but even for us it's so rare it seldom happens." All of us stand there in silence for a couple of minutes until we get interrupted by Khonsu's stomach. "Guess it's time for dinner," he says and walks out. "Hurry up maybe we'll see Lilith there and can talk to her about all this" he shouts before he leaves the dorm. We both run after him and to the mess hall.

When we walk in it's already packed. Every year eats at the same time and because of that, the room is massive. Witches help make the food cook faster and anything you can think of is probably there already. The different food lines the front wall and from what I can see there are at least twenty different types of food. I can see a blood station, fresh seafood, a section that is pretty much all meat, one that has only vegetables, something that doesn't even look like food, and all types of food that humans like because witches eat almost anything, except blood.

My attention is pulled away when Khonsu says he found Lilith. I look over and she's sitting with two other girls at a table in the corner. Both of them seem to be laughing with her, though I can't tell what they are from over here. The first girl has long blonde hair and what looks like a red shirt and the other has short brown hair that stops at her shoulders. She has a yellow dress and seems to be excitedly telling them a story. I look at the others and motion for us to get food. Once we do, we head to her table and take a seat beside them.

Their conversation stalls at our arrival. Lilith looks over at us and then looks down at her hands. Once she looks back up, she says to the blonde girl Thalia this is Khonsu, Alaric, and Wren, they took me back to the room when I passed out in class today. Thalia looks at us and then frowns. "So, these are the guys that went into our room today? I thought we wouldn't hear from them again." She looks us up and down and then turns back towards Lilith. Lilith takes the opportunity to introduce the other girl and says her name is Wenxin. "It's nice to meet you" I tell them both and then look at Lilith. "We need to talk to you, in private please."

She looks worried, but she turns to Thalia and nods. "After classes are over today, I can meet you in front of the dorms." The guys nod back, and we eat in silence after that. Once the bell rings we head to our next class, shifting. Well, Khonsu and I do, witches have another class to focus their power in place of shifting. Both of us think solely of ways to tell Lilith she's our mate. Khonsu told me what happened earlier and how she reacted to finding out about him so it's worrying me a little. How will she react to two mates? I can only think of her panicking again.

After creature identification we head to the dorm and wait. Lilith gets there shortly after we do and looks nervous. "I already told you Khonsu, its impossible for me to have a mate so you're wrong, and even if you are I don't want a mate" she says looking at her feet. "I know you said that when I met you, but there is one thing wrong with what you just said" I look at her face when I tell her, and she glances at me. "You don't have a mate." She looks puzzled but I tell her quickly "You don't have a mate, Lilith, you have two."

I was right when I said she would panic. Her face goes pale, and she looks between me and Khonsu before she starts breathing quickly and runs into the forest. I look at Khonsu, but he's already running after her. This went so well I think to myself.

Khonsu comes back a little while later but doesn't say anything as he heads to his room and slams the door. I try not to panic but it's all I can think of to do. What if she was so serious about not wanting a mate that she rejects us? I quickly stand and go to Khonsu's room. I knock and wait before he opens the door. "What happened?" He has red eyes, and it looks like he just got out of the shower. He looks at me but doesn't say anything. "Khonsu" I say impatiently. "She said she has to think about what to do. She doesn't know if she's going to reject us or not." He tells me before he shuts his door in my face and mine goes pale.

My mate wants to reject me? What am I going to do?
