Chapter 13 —
Lucy.
"Why? It's the truth." He let out a sarcastic laugh, his arms crossed tightly over his chest while his back rested lazily against the chair. His demeanor screamed arrogance, like he was mocking me.
I shook my head, my jaw clenched in defiance. "You don’t know anything," I retorted sharply, my voice steady yet brimming with restrained fury.
Every fiber of my being burned with anger at this man, but I held myself back. Not out of respect for him—he didn’t deserve even an ounce of it—but for this house, this space that still carried an air of dignity. I refused to tarnish it with impulsive violence, no matter how much he provoked me.
The tension in the air was suffocating, my hands balling into fists at my sides as I fought to control the storm brewing inside me. Every nerve screamed for release, but I swallowed it down, determined to maintain my composure, even if it was slowly unraveling.
Tumawa ulit ito. "Really?" "Is that your slutty sister told you?
My blood boiled with every word that left his mouth, spewing nonsense about my sister as if he had the right.
"Are you gonna—" I started, barely able to contain the venom in my voice.
But before I could finish, a deep, commanding voice cut through the air like a blade. "What's happening here?"
We all froze, the weight of his presence immediately sinking into the room. It was Azriel. His tone was unmistakable—low and edged with aggression, each word carrying a dangerous warning.
He sounded angry. Not just irritated, but the kind of anger that made your skin prickle and the air feel heavy, as if something was about to erupt.
He straightened up from behind me, his hands gently resting on both of my shoulders. The warmth of his touch was unexpected, but it carried a quiet reassurance.
"You guys should try seeing things from Nyxia’s perspective. Leonardo’s too clueless to understand what happened to her," he explained calmly, his voice steady yet firm. I couldn’t help but be shocked at how effortlessly he insulted his own cousin without hesitation. "Leonardo knows everything now; just ask him."
With that, he moved to the empty chair beside me and casually sat down, placing one hand on my thigh as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
I shot a glare at the hand resting on my leg, then turned my sharp gaze toward him, silently challenging his audacity.
"What do you mean?" I leaned closer and whispered my question to him, once again brushing his hand off my thigh. But, as expected, he simply put it back, as if daring me to try again.
