She found out Odysseus's story.
He was going to war. It confused her, that a king would go to to war.
He had a brilliant idea, to use a huge wooden horse to get inside, to use it as a "gift".
When he got inside, he and his army killed everyone.
Then they got on their ship to sail home. But they were running low on food. So they stopped by an island that seemed to have fire, which hopefully meant people. They decided to go peacefully. They saw many people, who all seemed to have a diet of one food, which Odysseus discovered was lotus fruit. It messed with your mind.
But the lotus eaters directed them to some other food, just across the island. In a cave.
Odysseus returned to his ship, bearing good news. They sailed to the to the other side of the island, and brought some other men to take to the cave.
There was enough sheep in the cave to feed the whole fleet. Odysseus shot one. That's when a cyclops came out. Turns out, this cyclops was very attached to his sheep. But before he killed anyone, Odysseus offered him wine, marking it as the finest wine they have. The cyclops asked for his name. Odysseus had said "Nobody".
But it wasn't enough. The cyclops nearly killed Odysseus. But he was quick. All his men took out their swords and started fighting him, as best as they could.
The only problem was when the cyclops brought out a club. He smashed person after person. Odysseus had frozen in horror, too afraid to do anything.
But he had a plan.
The cyclops fell, just as he was about to smash another man. Odysseus launched into action. He had put lotus in his wine.
They took his club and sharpened the stub, turning it to a giant spear. The cyclops's body was blocking them from the outside world. They stabbed his eye.
The cyclops screamed out, and more eyes came from deeper in the cave. Odysseus and his men hid.
The cyclops's asked what was wrong, who hurt him. And he responded, "It was Nobody." Which the cyclops's took as "It was nobody." The left. And then Odysseus ran away with his sheep and what was left of his men.
Those were the first deaths on his terrible journey.
While his men went ahead, Odysseus trailed behind. Athena met him. She was not proud of him. She and he cut off all ties.
Then, he was so close to home, when a terrible storm came.
He saw Aeolus's floating island and went there alone. Aeolus gave him the windbag, so long as he never opened it sailing home would be fine. But there was a trick. His crew was told inside held treasure.
So Odysseus stayed awake for days. When he finally slept, his crew stole the bag and opened it, releasing a horrible storm and waking Odysseus.
Their ships spiraled out of control. That's where they met Poseidon. He wasn't happy.
He sunk all of Odysseus's ships except his, with all the crew members on them. He had taken 600 men to war, and now only 43 are left.
Odysseus gets away by opening what wind is left in his bag.
Which made him land on Circe's island. He had a group of men scout ahead, including his second in command, Eurylochus,
Only Eurylochus came back.
He tells Odysseus Circe turned his men into pigs. Odysseus goes after them alone, where he meets Hermes. Hermes gives him a flower that protects Odysseus from Circe's power.
He goes to Circe's palace and fights her. He wins, but Circe becomes convincing. She starts to flirt with him. Just as she's about to stab in the back he pushes her away.
He tells Circe about his wife, and how long he's been from home. She takes pity on him and changes his men back.
She also sends him to the underworld to meet a prophet, who can supposedly help him.
He goes with his men into the underworld. He doesn't meet Hades, but he does find the prophet. The prophet doesn't help him, but he does give Odysseus a vague glimpse of his past, which agitated him.
Odysseus returns to his ship, ready to sail from the underworld.
Back at the ocean they see a ship with no crew, realizing there was sirens around. They plug their ears.
When they run into the sirens, Odysseus reads their lips and responds. A siren pretends to be Odysseus's wife, trying to get him to jump in the water.
Odysseus tricks her into telling him how to get home.
He's terrified of the answer.
The lair of Scylla.
He continues his act, until he convinces the siren to come into the ship. He's captured them all.
He cuts off their tails and throws them back into the water.
Then he sails to the lair of Scylla. Just ahead of it, Eurylochus tells Odysseus a secret he's been keeping for a long, long time.
He had opened Odysseus's windbag.
Odysseus seems to forgive him, telling him to light six torches. What Eurylochus didn't realize was that Scylla had six heads.
Scylla popped up.
She took all the men holding torches. Eurylochus drops his, and another picks it up. A big mistake.
When they sail out, Eurylochus challenges Odysseus. They duel. Odysseus gets stabbed by his own crew. He passes out. When he wakes they are on another island. It's covered in cows, and has a statue of the sun god. Odysseus's crew is starving. Odysseus realized these are the sun god's cows and doesn't want hi crew to kill them. It's too late.
They flee on their ship.
But their punishment catches them. Zeus appears, and gives Odysseus a choice.
Either he dies, or all his men die.
He wants to see his wife.
He chooses
His men.
Zeus strikes the ship with his lightning bolt. His men drown.
Odysseus washes up here.
