It had been days since their tense conversation outside the estate, and the distance between Mingyu and Jeonghan seemed to grow heavier with each passing moment. Jeonghan had managed to immerse himself in work, convincing himself that his life was better without Mingyu’s confusing words lingering in his head.

But his resolve was shattered one cold evening when his phone buzzed with a call that sent his heart plummeting.

“Is this Yoon Jeonghan?”

“Yes,” Jeonghan replied cautiously, gripping his phone tighter.

“This is Dr. Minhyuk from Seoul General Hospital. Kim Mingyu has been admitted. He was in an accident.”

The world tilted beneath Jeonghan’s feet. His mind raced as the doctor continued explaining, but the details blurred together. All he heard was “critical condition” and “surgery.” Without another thought, he grabbed his coat and rushed out the door.

The Hospital

The sterile smell of antiseptic filled the air as Jeonghan hurried through the hospital corridors. His breath came in quick gasps, his mind filled with images of Mingyu—broken, bleeding, vulnerable.

He found Taehyung and Seokjin in the waiting room, their faces pale and drawn with worry. Taehyung’s eyes lit up with a mixture of hope and despair when she saw him.

“Jeonghan,” she whispered, clutching his hands. “Thank goodness you’re here.”

“What happened?” Jeonghan asked, his voice trembling.

Seokjin answered, his tone grim. “Mingyu’s car was hit by a truck. The police said it looked like the driver ran a red light, but… there’s something off about it.”

Jeonghan frowned, his heart sinking further. “Off how?”

Seokjin hesitated. “The truck didn’t stop. Witnesses said it looked deliberate.”

Jeonghan’s blood ran cold. Deliberate? Who would target Mingyu? And why?

A Long Night

The hours crawled by as they waited for news. Jeonghan sat in silence, his mind replaying every interaction with Mingyu over the past few weeks. Guilt gnawed at him, sharp and unrelenting. Had their strained relationship pushed Mingyu to distraction?

Finally, the surgeon emerged, his expression weary but hopeful. “The surgery was successful. Mingyu has multiple fractures, but we were able to stabilize him. He’ll recover, but it will take time.”

Taehyung broke into tears of relief, clutching Seokjin, while Jeonghan felt his knees weaken. The knot in his chest loosened, but the doctor’s next words brought it back.

“We’re moving him to a private room. Only family is allowed for now.”

Jeonghan opened his mouth to protest, but Taehyung interrupted.

“Jeonghan is his fiancé,” she said firmly, her eyes flashing with determination.

The doctor nodded. “Of course. You can see him once he’s awake.”

At Mingyu’s Side

Jeonghan entered Mingyu’s room hours later, his steps hesitant. Mingyu lay pale and still against the stark white sheets, an oxygen mask covering his face. The sight made Jeonghan’s chest ache in a way he wasn’t prepared for.

He sat beside the bed, his fingers brushing against Mingyu’s hand. “You idiot,” he whispered, his voice cracking. “You scared me.”

The steady beep of the heart monitor was the only response. Jeonghan leaned back, his head in his hands. The thought of losing Mingyu terrified him more than he wanted to admit.

The Questions Begin

When Mingyu finally woke the next day, groggy but alive, Jeonghan was there. Mingyu’s gaze softened when he saw him, though his voice was weak.

“Jeonghan…?”

Jeonghan leaned closer, his eyes red-rimmed from lack of sleep. “I’m here. You’re okay.”

Mingyu gave a faint smile, but his expression darkened. “The accident… it wasn’t random.”

Jeonghan frowned, his heart sinking. “You think someone planned it?”

Mingyu nodded slowly, wincing at the movement. “The truck didn’t even try to stop. It came straight at me.”

The room fell silent as Jeonghan processed Mingyu’s words. Who would want to hurt him? Was it someone from Mingyu’s business dealings? Or was it something… personal?

An Ominous Warning

Later that evening, Jeonghan stepped out to get some air and ran into Seokjin.

“Jeonghan,” Seokjin said quietly, his gaze serious. “I need you to be careful.”

Jeonghan frowned. “What do you mean?”

“There are people who don’t want Mingyu to be happy,” Seokjin said cryptically. “And now that you’re part of his life, you could be a target too.”

Jeonghan’s blood ran cold. He’d thought the fake relationship was a harmless charade, but now it seemed to have dragged him into something much darker.

As he returned to Mingyu’s side, Jeonghan couldn’t shake the feeling that this was only the beginning—and that their fake relationship had just turned very real in more ways than one.
