The hospital room was unbearably quiet.
Not peaceful quiet.
The kind of quiet that suffocates.
The kind that makes every beep of a machine sound terrifying.
Dim yellow light spilled across the white walls while rain tapped softly against the glass windows, the storm outside almost cruelly calm compared to the one inside the room.
Samaira sat beside Advait's bed motionlessly.
Her fingers were wrapped tightly around his hand as if letting go-even for a second-would make him disappear.
He looked nothing like the man who once walked into rooms like he owned the world.
Nothing like the man people feared.
Nothing like the man who always stood tall.
Right now-
Advait Singh Shekhawat looked fragile.
Bandages wrapped around his head.
His skin pale.
His breathing weak.
And every shallow inhale felt like it was ripping Samaira apart from the inside.
Her eyes burned from crying for hours, but the tears still wouldn't stop.
Because every time she looked at him-
Her chest shattered all over again.
"You promised me..." she whispered brokenly, brushing his hair away from his forehead carefully. "You promised me you'd stay."
No response.
Only the soft beeping of the monitor.
Samaira swallowed hard.
"You don't get to do this to me, Advait," she whispered shakily. "You don't get to save me and then leave me alone."
Her voice cracked completely on the last word.
Still-
No response.
Her trembling fingers moved to his cheek.
Cold.
Too cold.
Fear clawed up her throat instantly.
"Advait..."
Slowly-
Painfully-
His eyelashes fluttered.
Her breath caught instantly.
"Advait?"
His eyes opened just slightly.
Weak.
Heavy.
But alive.
Relief hit her so hard she almost sobbed.
"Oh my God..." she cried softly, immediately leaning closer. "Advait..."
A faint smile tugged at his lips.
"There she is..." he whispered weakly. "My crying wife."
A broken laugh escaped her through tears.
"Shut up..." she whispered, clutching his hand tighter. "Please just... shut up."
His gaze stayed fixed on her face.
Like he was trying to memorize it.
"You look horrible," he murmured faintly.
