Everything about her unsettled me, but I guess the alcohol had something to do with it.
I guess..
Billie kept getting interrupted by people. After all, she was literally the star of the party, in every sense of the word. She had this really cool, laid-back vibe and genuinely seemed to enjoy the people around her.
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out to me.
"Fuck, Dina!"
I turned around, and there was my best friend's face.
"Kate! I thought you were dead, damn it."
"Dude, I've been looking for you for two hours!"
"You're the one who disappeared. You were supposed to stick with Kole."
"I ditched Kole, he kept staring at other girls' asses."
"Yeah, I saw him while I was looking for you. I almost punched him."
"Not related, but girl, I just found out something crazy!"
Intrigued, I looked at her.
"Mm tell me"
She took a deep breath and blurted out, "Billie Eilish is here tonight."
Of course, I was drinking when she said it. I nearly choked, almost spitting out my drink. She had to be kidding me.
But no, apparently not. She went on.
"That other asshole told me."
I caught my breath, still shaken.
"Oh yeah?"
Suddenly, another voice chimed in behind me, accompanied by a hand gently placed on my back.
"You okay there ?"
I turned around, and of course, it was Billie. She'd just slid up behind me.
Kate's face changed instantly.
"Billie???"
Billie gave a small, slightly awkward smile.
"Who asks ?"
Kate looked at me, then at her, switching between us as if trying to piece together a complicated puzzle. It weirdly reminded me of the Skeet situation earlier. Eventually, she stopped at me.
"Wait... I just realized. Billie is Billie?"
"Girl, I was going to tell you, I swear."
Billie, still standing there, tilted her head and grimaced slightly.
"Billie is Billie ??"
I'd never had so many dumb conversations back-to-back in my life.
Kate continued, dumbfounded.
"So, the whole time, your mysterious client was her, and you said nothing?"
"Not exactly, but... actually...yeah...that's exactly it."
Billie stared at me for a moment, looking curious.
"Said nothing about what?"
I felt all eyes on me. I grabbed my drink, hoping for some liquid comfort, but Billie took it from my hands before I could take a sip.
"Nope, babe, you're not escaping this conversation with your friend."
Then, like it was nothing, she turned to chat with other people, leaving me alone with a completely frozen Kate.
She leaned in closer,
"Did she just call you Babe ??? Are you kidding me?"
"I can explain..."
