The sun is beating down on my head through the curtains, pulling a groan out of me. I throw an arm over my face to block the light and turn over to grab my phone.
3 p.m.
Shit, I've slept the whole day away.
I sigh, swing my legs over the edge of the bed, and quickly throw on a sweatshirt and some joggers. I shuffle to the kitchen to make some coffee and try to wake up properly. While the machine is doing its thing, I check my notifications.
That's when a door creaks open behind me.
A guy, shirtless and in boxers, stumbles out of Kate's room. He's shuffling like a zombie, scratching his chest, still half-asleep. Apparently, walking around half-naked in front of me doesn't bother him at all. He finally notices me and mutters a vague "Hey" before disappearing into the bathroom. A few seconds later, he's back out and heading straight for Kate's room again.
Guess someone had a good night.
The coffee machine finishes its cycle, letting out a final puff of steam as confirmation that it's ready. I grab my mug, sit down on the couch, and throw on some episodes of Malcolm in the Middle to kill time.
An hour later, the guy finally reappears, dressed this time, with Kate following behind him. I lift my head slightly from my episode to watch the scene unfold.
His deep voice echoes in the room,
"Last night was fun, we'll catch up?"
Kate gives him a small smile.
"I'm kind of busy these days."
"Oh, okay. Well, you've got my number if you ever want to."
"Yep, I'll keep that in mind."
He leaves, and as soon as the door closes, Kate lets out a heavy sigh.
"Jesus, I thought he'd never leave."
I laugh, making her jump slightly.
"Damn, you're up already?"
"It's 4 p.m. dude."
"What?? Shit, I thought it was like 11."
"You must've had a long night."
I emphasize "long" with a smirk.
She just gives me a small grin before plopping down on the couch next to me. She grabs my coffee mug out of my hand and takes a sip.
"Yeah, pretty long."
"How was it?"
"Not bad, for a firefighter."
"And you're not seeing him again?"
"I'll keep him on standby for now."
"You still hoping to get your ex back?"
Kate arches a confident brow.
"I'm not hoping. I'm certain."
Her determination makes me laugh. I shake my head and go back to my episode.
The afternoon flies by. We don't do anything except binge-watch episodes on the couch.
The only highlight of the day? Ordering food.
Indian.
Just to stuff ourselves before passing out again.
Around 8 p.m., we finally retreat to our rooms, still dead tired after getting home at 5 a.m. from Skeet's party. Safe to say, we didn't get much sleep.
