"You really don't want to come?"
I held the door open, watching Skeet and the others walk away.
"No, don't worry, have fun."
"Yeah, count on us!"
I gently closed the door behind him and let out a sigh.
Here I am, stuck in this huge empty cabin all day...
With a pissed-off Billie.
She'd disappeared into her room about twenty minutes ago.
Shark was keeping me company in my solitude. I crouched down to his level and petted his head.
"Come on bro, let's put on some music. Maybe it'll drag your mom out of her damn cave."
I walked over to the couch, grabbed the remote, and turned on the TV. I hit play on my Spotify playlist, letting The Weeknd fill the living room with sound.
I decided to take advantage of the peace to tidy up a bit. I started picking up clothes and stuff the guys had left all over the floor, eventually making a pile in the corner. They can sort their shit out themselves.
Suddenly, Shark leapt off the couch, startling me.
"What the hell are you doing ?"
I followed him with my eyes, then turned around. Billie was there, crouched down, petting her dog.
She stood up without a word and walked past me, casually heading for the kitchen.
I heard the fridge door open, and then she pulled out a can of soda. She finally turned to look at me, leaning against the counter.
"Why are you cleaning up their shit?"
I stood up, holding a t-shirt, and looked at her. She, on the other hand, was watching me, taking a sip from her can.
"Do you see anything else to do?"
A playful smile spread across her lips. She seemed to be thinking of something, but quickly erased it before setting her can down.
Without saying anything more, she left the kitchen and headed back to her room.
Interesting exchange.
About ten minutes later, I finally collapsed onto the couch and started scrolling through my phone.
Then my phone buzzed.
It was Kate.

— Hey babe, how's it going?
— Hey girl, I'm good. What about you? Your dad?
— We left that asshole alone. Mom, my brother, and I rented another house.
— Good news, is it going well?
— Yeah, pretty good. It was weird at first, but I'm getting to know my family again, you know?
— That's so cool, I'm so happy for you!!
— And you, tell me, how's the vacation going? Billie?
— Billie? Why are you asking about her?
— Did she put you in her bed or not?
— Mmh, I don't know what you're talking about.
— Oh fuck, I knew it! So, how's it feel to sleep with a woman? Is it really better or what?
— You know I don't like talking about that stuff.
