She stepped toward me, towering over me by a few inches, her gaze practically slicing through me.
I stepped back to let her in, my mind scrambled.
Of all people, I wasn't expecting her.
I stared at her, searching for an explanation, before blurting out:
"What the hell are you doing here Lina?"
I hadn't seen her since Skeet's party, where she kissed Billie before ending up in Skeet's bed. And now she was showing up at my place like it was nothing.
She took another step closer, a smirk on her face, and threw out:
"Don't play innocent bitch."
Wait... did I hear that right?
My face tensed up, caught between confusion and disbelief.
"Excuse me? Are you joking?"
"Wasn't it enough for you to steal Billie from me last time?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
She kept advancing, but no way was I letting her walk all over me.
"You think I didn't see the text you sent Skeet?"
Ah, right. She's been dating Skeet for a few days now. He mentioned it to me casually, making it clear he wasn't all that serious about it.
I tried to defuse the situation. She wasn't worth me losing my temper over something this dumb.
"Look, Skeet and I are just friends, I swear. I'm not trying to take him from you."
"Friends who've fucked, right?"
Oh, for fuck's sake.
Did Skeet really have to tell her about that?
"Look, it was a mistake, okay? We were drunk. It meant nothing, to him or to me. You're getting worked up over nothing."
She dug into her pocket, and I swear for a second, I thought she was about to pull a knife or a fuckin gun.
Was this really how I was going to die?
But no. She pulled out her phone instead and started reading, her voice dripping with mockery:
"Yo Skeet, I'm all alone this week. Wanna come keep me company?"
She emphasized the last part, practically spitting it out:
"And you added a pregnant emoji"
Okay. I admit, that was a fuck-up.
I could kind of see why she was pissed. That message could definitely be misinterpreted.
I fumbled for the right words to explain, but she didn't give me a chance.
"A fucking pregnant emoji? Are you serious?"
"Alright, I'll admit it's weird, but it wasn't like that. It's this inside joke we have, when Skeet comes over, we always order way too much food. It's just our thing. That's all."
"Oh, so you think I'm stupid now?"
She launched into another rant, but I'd had enough. She was seriously starting to piss me off. I raised a hand to cut her off.
"Listen to me. I don't give a shit about Skeet. He's just a friend. Whether you believe me or not, that's on you. You could've just texted me instead of showing up here like a lunatic."
She looked taken aback by my tone, but only for a second. She shook it off and stepped back, furious.
"You really think I'd believe you dumb bitch? After you stole Billie from me last time?"
